A Friday DU appreciation thread .... for DU
Having been a DU member for quite some time I have found DU to be such a fantastic source for facts and BS detection on specific issues and news items. The two that come immediately to mind were the run up to the war on Iraq and Terry Schiavo (the story that never was according to the media as soon as it went up in smoke on them) where DU members provided background, research, and critical thinking that supplied us with what would soon become the final news in the face of a landslide lies. The right wing hoaxes of the Obama administration do not yet all have a finished scripts but I think we already have the information that will make up those stories.
The last two weeks following the murder of Michael Brown is another great example of what DU delivers.

DU is such a cool place.
Why, if the admins hadn't started it, someone else would have had to..........wait, what?
Its the best news/talk site for liberals, bar none.
We can actually talk to each other, hear each other, even disagree with each other, without having to wade through all the wingnut fact-starved talking points white noise that exists on other sites.
Also it is the best designed. I really like the ability to post straight away, with moderation taking more of a wait and see attitude instead of on other sites like Huffington Post where you are deemed guilty first and have to go through a time consuming moderation before you or others can see what you wrote. Sometimes your post doesnt show up and no explanation is ever given. At least here I know there is a jury and explanation if a post of mine is hidden.
Oh, and as a visual person, I appreciate the easy way to post images and video they make it on here.
