General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsCould we perhaps step back a little from our choices for 2016?
I can see many of us would like to take sides one way or the other. HOWEVER,
We have a dysfunctional Congress,
We have a very serious situation in Ferguson,
We have a possibly dramatic development in Iraq,
We have a war in Israel/Palestine,
We have a dangerous problem in the Ukraine,
and we have children coming to us from Central America.
All these problems have to be faced by the present POTUS as well as the Congress (although I doubt its positive input).
All these new developments will play into at least the next year and may change the political scene considerably.
Perhaps we can concentrate on ideas about these issues before we get into the usual brawl about 2016.
And, yes, of course there is November!

(58,634 posts)I try to avoid 2016 talk as much as possible. We need to win 2014.

(18,998 posts)But frankly we don't seem to have a clue how to do that...nothing but stick by the party because the other party is nuts will not cut it.
Every day my in box is full of politicians telling me how crazy the right wing is and asking for money to fight them...well they wore that one out with me...and I suspect many more like me just tune it out...they offer us nothing but fear.

Why not wait until after the election.
Unless it was just to make headlines and sell more books.

(5,158 posts)I want to focus on 2014 before even thinking about 2016. We still have over two years to go, and no candidate has even officially declared yet. Let's focus on GOTV in November, keeping the Senate and regaining control of the House. 2016 is still a long way off.

(3,431 posts)but I think that she herself might step back the way things are developing here and abroad. I am no fan of her, because she is not a democrat to me (note the small d). However, if we are getting deeply involved again militarily I think the whole spectrum of the party may change.
I may be wrong, have been so before. I don't believe in a novel Savior among our party, but I would like younger or different people coming into the limelight to get national exposure. This will not happen, if we always bicker about pro/anti Hillary debates. The world all over is changing too fast to foresee newer and more inspiring candidates.

(3,431 posts)I happen to think that the situations here and abroad have changed and will change so fast that we cannot even understand totally how that may change the domestic policies and their implications. Think how much has changed in just 6 months. The problems the POTUS and the Congress will be facing may evolve quite differently than before.
Thus my plea to watch all these developments first before we make any judgements.
