Marta's stained glass "Two Red Roses" went up today

Last edited Sun Aug 31, 2014, 11:43 PM - Edit history (1)

Original post Two red roses across the moon (no daisy a day dear): http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025433174

This is our front facing west view bay window. Her glass will catch the sun light in the afternoon filtered all summer by leaves. It just figures it had to be a rain day for the photo.

2. That's where I put my glass stuff, in the west facing windows

The one in my bedroom is all clear prism glass and particularly effective.

I love glass art, it's one of the things I don't do.

7. Beautiful!

I have lots of stained glass pieces. My wife was an artist for many years. She always said her artwork would be around long after she was gone and it would be her legacy. She died a couple of years ago and now I have her glass artwork proudly displayed as a tribute to her life. I have had several offers to buy some of her work, but I could never sell any of it. It's how I hold on to a piece of what we had.

9. Yeah, making stained glass is an expensive hobby

I'd love to get into it again. I made a few pieces many years ago as a teenager, but just as I wanted to pick it up several years ago the stained glass supply store here in town closed.

36. It can be expensive

but if you check garage sales and the craigslist type of sites you can find some very good deals. That's where I got most of my tools including grinder, different cutters and other tools, lots of glass and patterns. Lots of people start up, buy all the equipment and it sits unused in their basement until they downsize.

And then there's this place which to be honest I haven't ordered from, but if I needed something I would give them a try.

That piece is beautiful, I'd love to see it up close to see how the artist did the lettering.

11. Incredibly beautiful.

My personal ambition is to take the 5'x5' double-pane beveled glass picture window I dragged home from curbside years ago and do a portrait of the Grand Canyon on it, then have it installed in a spot that really needs more light.

At this point I begin to wonder if it'll ever happen though. But I really do love good artwork of any kind.

Have to admit... I read the title wrong, and thought you meant that she sold it! :whew:

30. Roses at the End of Time

One of my favorite songs...about the ultimate meaning of love...seems very appropriate for you and Marta.

Winding down to the end of the line
And the falling of the curtain
I'll be yours and you'll be mine
Of that one truth I'm certain
I will give you roses fair
For every secret you did share
For all your words that flowed like wine
Roses at the end of time

<snip>
One rose for every vow you kept
One for every tear you wept
For all the moments you were kind
Roses at the end of time

One rose for every dream you dared
One for every wrong repaired
For all that bound your heart to mine
Roses at the end of time

Safe home, Omaha Steve.
