democrats to broker deals. My father was a strong democratic, they wanted him to run as a senator, did not, bad health. He had a lot of republican friends. What a difference between then and now. The new GOP is totally bizarre and out of control. The old GOP was perfectly OK by me.

One part I found interesting in the "Eisenhower White House" statement, though was that they would "Assure equal pay for equal work regardless of Sex."

While recent GOP actions may not qualify as a "platform," they clearly have no interest in such assurances 60 years later.

Removed in 1976 at the behest of Reagan and the RWNJs. Ford didn't have the guts to stand up to them. See "The Invisible Bridge" by Rick Perlstein - the last chapters are about the '76 Repub convention.

It's a lot easier to get away with lies and manipulation now; those who vote for the GOP don't hold them accountable. The seven items on that list were DEMANDED by the American majority at the time.

and only a fraction of them bother to actually get out and vote, so they have a much easier time of fooling *just enough* people (with their normal 'fear and scare' tactics) to get some of their candidates elected and some of their crap passed.

(See, for example, http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025720674 for further discussion on how this works, with 1/5 of the electorate 'as dumb as dirt'.)

There's nothing in the current platform that remotely resembles the good stuff from 1956.

In fact, the platform pretty much blames everything on the Obama administration and/or Obamacare. It reads more like a Rush Limbaugh rant than a serious political document.

To let them speak for themselves. What I saw utterly lacking was any policies that support wages. There's this faith that if the private sector creates jobs, that's enough. That competition will drive wages up if unemployment is low. But, employers act as a cartel, fixing wages. The practice will end the middle class in job classifications it hasn't already, and nothing the Republicans propose will counter that. It isn't even addressed.

They want to pander to corporate interests, who prefer to keep wages low at all costs.
That's also why the right pushes "right to work" union busting.

The usefulness of things like the graphic in the OP is that it cuts out all the BS language the GOP uses in their platform to justify harmful policies. For instance, all their proclamations that taxes need to be cut really means cutting the social safety net. They can't come right out and say that, so they have to dance around it in language that makes it sound acceptable.

Yes, 2 million viewers, but like Rush, Beck and others their affect is cancerous. How many of those viewers go on with their daily lives spreading that manure and hate to others?
