(17,103 posts)in California's agricultural Central Valley. Amanda's race was looking a bit dismal, but she's picked up big mo, and is racing to close the gap. She's got an amazing resume, and would be a wonderful Democratic member of Congress.
Being involved in her campaign is reminiscent, to me, of contributing and following Gabby Gifford's first campaign and watching her win. Amanda makes me think of Wendy Davis and Alison Lundergan Grimes.
There's been a big last minute infusion of cash from both the DCCC and Eva Longoria's Latino Victory Project. The DCCC had previously pulled away from Renteria's campaign, but they now feel that it's worthwhile to re-invest in her.
Here's her campaign website: http://www.amandarenteria.com/
and here's a Fresno Bee article from Friday: http://www.fresnobee.com/2014/10/31/4209301/outside-group-dccc-spend-for-renteria.html
One pertinent quote from Amanda's campaign manager Michael Trujillo: This race is going to come down to 500 votes in either direction, Trujillo said. Anyone who says anything else, theyre living on Mars.
She's just finished a Straight from the Heart of the Central Valley 24-Hour Pickup Truck Tour

Otherwise, I expect local and California state elections to go pretty much the way I vote; and any different outcomes will just be part of the political reality that I'll have to live with. I've been avoiding phone calls for a while, but I've started answering them now; we're so close that I want to offer encouragement to all the hard-working phone staffers. I'm actually heartened to hear the dedicated young voices coming over my landline, and I make our conversations positive and enthusiastic.
I'm not quite as doom and gloomy on the rest of the electoral scene. There will be surprises in both directions; I've been making contributions all over the chess board, and I have the overflowing email account to prove it. I've been around long enough to know that we're in the long game for the long haul, and I've learned to live and participate in spite of the political atrocities that have befallen us in our lives.
I have a theory that we can go back to the dawn of humanity and find this same drama being played out over and over throughout the ages. You could put yourself down into any point in history and find the same struggles; the same treachery; the same drama, intrigue, heroism, and betrayals being played out by the same actors.
We have no choice but to continue.

Nope, I won't listen to the doom and gloom either. That is exactly what the GOP and Kochs want us to do. Yes the media too. They are trying to suppress the vote by doing so. I say no!

(39,369 posts)not just on the two years that remain but on the pathetic reaction to him personally and how it has cost this nation a chance to move forward on many, many fronts. You have a moral, reasonable, intelligent, charismatic leader at a critical time in your history and so many have chosen to treat him as their personal fire hydrant. You're blowing it, America, and, guess what, a lot of us realize it, like the people in these photos, who will be heard from for many years to come.

(128,844 posts)Was just listening to the local news radio report on the event this morning and you could hear that the crowd went wild. Unions were there including the Phiadelphia Federation of Teachers who have been utterly destroyed by the current governor's policies. The University is my Mom's alma mater.
They also reported that Christie was in the Philly 'burbs Sunday stumping for Corbett and he idiotically repeated the "unpopular" meme and how he was glad that the President was here for Wolf with the assumption that doing so was a losing strategy. That's how you now that the GOP continues talking to empty chairs in a world where up is down and left is right. The reality is that if this was true, Rmoney would have won PA.
The city needs to seal the deal for Wolf and GOTV. I will be taking my Mom to her polling place Tuesday and then voting myself!

He HAS been to Wisconsin and Michigan, where the races are close. His visit here in Philly was to acknowledge the LOYAL Democrats who helped bring PA into his column in a presidential election year and who will do something that hasn't happened in modern PA gubernatorial history - oust a 1-term governor. The city of Philadelphia is who brings the bacon home and has done such (bring the state into the blue column for Presidents) since 1988.

How The Media Helped The GOP Sell Their Fear-Based Appeal
"..If you look at every single major issue in this campaign, the American public agree with our position," Biden said, "from federal support for infrastructure to minimum wage to marriage equality."
Biden is right, and the numbers are staggering. Seventy percent of Americans support increasing the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour, according to the results of a CBS News/New York Times poll from September. When Gallup asked whether voters would be more likely to support candidates who want to spend federal government money on infrastructure repairs, 72 percent said they would. Polling from ABCNews/Washington Post, The New York Times/CBS News, and McClatchy-Marist all shows majority
"But wait a minute," Borger injected Push Push Push Gloria..
