what USED to be NORMAL broadcasting..
The Weather Channel was a welcome addition when we first got cable.. Any time, day or night , 24/7/365 you could tune in and see WEATHER....
not 2 Fat Guys in the Woods or Famous Hurricanes from 20 years ago (while an ACTUAL, REAL hurricane was hitting Mexico)

(14,255 posts)We have a little local bare-bones weather channel, and then there is the internet.
Even when they are covering really bad weather, too, any useful information on the crawl at the bottom is interrupted by commercials, which annoys the fuck out of me, for some illogical reason. So, to me, it is no more useful than a local broadcast almost all of the time, so why bother.

(60,006 posts)to Seattle to do a post doc - the day after New Year! - my wife and baby daughter remaining at my parents house in RI - it took a week and I stayed at really cheap motels - was concerned about the weather ahead. First night I was going around the cable channels - and there are these people standing in front of maps, showing radar plots - I could actually see what I would be driving into.
Imagine. real weather reporting.
We've not watched it in years (cut the cable nearly 10 years ago), but even then, it had gone the way of infomercials/bad "reality" TV even then.
