A man was shot by two officers during a traffic stop after police said he was acting suspiciously.
The shooting happened in front of a convenience store on Buffalo Speedway and West Fuqua. Police pulled over a car, but HPD said a man inside the car wouldn't listen to their commands, even after he was shot multiple times by officers.
"When I was about to walk into the store, I heard gunshots, so immediately I turned around and grabbed my son and got us both on the ground," said witness Laquesha Spencer.
Police said the shots were fired after the passenger inside the silver car would not co-operate with officer's orders to sit still and put his hands up.

(60,010 posts)Yeah, being drilled with bullets might have had something to do with that, ya think.?
From other reports:
According to police, they ordered the occupants of the car to sit still and put their hands up, and then they claim that Walker ignored their orders and reached under his seat. Thats when police immediately opened fire.
At that point, Walker, after already being shot, got out of the car and began to strip off his clothes.
Clearly unarmed and not posing a threat, another officer got involved and shot him several more times.
For clarity, the victim was black, the cops white.
Victim is in hospital, his mother says the police are guarding his room and will not let her see him.

(60,010 posts)And appears that one of the problems is the police do not have to pay for the consequences.
Research from Human Rights Watch reveals that in some places, taxpayers are paying three times for officers who repeatedly commit abuses:
once to cover their salaries while they commit abuses;
next to pay settlements or civil jury awards against officers;
and a third time through payments into police defense funds provided by the cities.
In larger cities, these settlements easily cost the public tens of millions of dollars annually while removing a substantial incentive against police misconduct.

I posted from the site above in part because it goes to show that concern over police brutality is shared by both sides of the political aisle.

Just where the fuck is this country at and how do we really change directions?
Yes, yes, I know, VOTE. But guess who was my democrat candidate for state senate? Jeff Roorda.
I think my new years resolution is going to be starting letter writing campaigns. But even that does not feel like anything.
Several years ago something really horrible happened in my family and from that, I learned that the best way to stop bad people was to just be a good person. That does not seem to be working out so well.

(50,267 posts)This has got to stop. Maybe we need to have a law passed that makes "acting suspicious" a legal activity. Add it to the bill about walking around Walmart carrying their merchandise and being shot by cops. Or we could have a blanket bill that makes it legal for individuals to be "black and male."

(22,336 posts)Of course didn't I at one poing hear of someone holding a puppy on a beach getting shot for having a mean look, or something like that?
Oh wait, found it. Not shot, just choked, and over "dehumanizing stares." And the kid was 14. I have a kid around that age and all they ever do is give eye-rolls and "dehumanizing stares." Not worthy of a violent reaction. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/30/tremaine-mcmillian-14-year-old-miami-dade-police_n_3362340.html
Police officers have way too much power in this country. This is Gestapo type stuff.

It was an epic house party for 100 guests of two Valparaiso University students and then the cops showed up.
Youth and alcohol brought forth some bad decision-making and several scenes befitting "National Lampoon's Animal House," the movie tribute to excessive college parties.
NWI.com's Sarah Gollner provides the details of what police found when they finally got inside the house on Saturday morning. (The tenants demanded a search warrant, which certainly improved their standing with police.)

(101,308 posts)and posed no 'threat' whatsoever. He had taken off his sweatshirt, and half pulled his pants down -he said something like "why did you shoot me, motherfucker" (that last word is bleeped out) - grazed by a bullet? They could see pretty much all of his boxer shorts - there was no way you could say "I thought he had a gun".
