It was the Giants winning the World Series..

It was a fun year to follow the Giants!

23. YOU!!!!

YOU, yes you, have to be one of the greatest DU members I have ever met on this forum!
EVAH!

I have been posting on this forum for over a decade now, and I have to tell you, I have come to the conclusion, after much thought, and after much consternation, and after reading [strike]all of your comments[/strike], [strike]almost all of your comments[/strike], [strike]most of your comments[/strike], some of the comments that you have made on this forum here, that you are truly one of the best members this forum has ever had!!
Without a doubt, you are the [strike]Number 1 DU member of all time[/strike], [strike]Number 2 member of all time[/strike], [strike]Number 3 member of all time[/strike].
Okay, maybe not, but one thing is for sure, you are in the [strike]TOP 5 best members of DU for all time[/strike], [strike]TOP 10 best members of DU for all time[/strike], [strike]TOP 25 best members of DU for all time![/strike]
Would you believe . . . the TOP 50 best members of DU for all time!

Honestly, I like you, and I want you to know that I think that you are truly a great person.

On top of that, most of all, if I may add to that, I really, really, really like you.

And if, perhaps some time next year, say sometime early in the year, early in the springtime, when the skies clear up, and the clouds are all big, puffy, and white, and the wind stops blowing in every different direction, and the sun comes out for the entire day, and it warms this whole big blue marble we live on, the one that we call "Earth", and you just happen to be taking a long walk through the park, early in the afternoon, strolling at your leisure, with nothing particular on your mind, taking your time, and enjoying the beauty of nature, and then when out of the corner of your eye, you just happen to notice something that gets your attention for a few seconds, and so then perhaps you may look off in that direction, just to see more clearly what it is that has somehow captured your attention, even if for just a few nano-seconds, and you just happen to see a big ol', hairy, ugly dog squatting, and pushing one huge, long turd out, one after another, I'd really appreciate it if you'd quietly whisper to yourself, "Man, that is one big pile of stinkin' dog shit!" . . and think of me!!

Happy New Year!!

Rooting for the San Jose Sharks, but I was so thrilled about the Giants, I didn't care who was playing what after that. Obviously the Raiders sucked, so maybe they will have a good draft pick this coming year.

104. Hey, YAY to the winners and Better Luck Next Year to the vanquished!

I'm afraid I'm a total lox as far as following the games, the teams, the whatevers, etc. If I ever tune in to the Super Bowl it's really only for the commercials and to see who's entertaining at halftime. Otherwise, what I know about sports - either professional or college or whatever - you could fit on the head of a pin. I only know the Seattle Seahawks exist because my daughter's a big fan. And they ARE in Seattle - correct?

I understand your friend's year through some of your posts here, and let's face it… we need a transitional year from how the world's citizen's have been treated.

If I could predict, 2015 will be that transitional year, therefore paving the way for BETTER ones!

Though, this is also the year people said no more to racism and police brutality on a level not seen for decades.

The Ferguson protest leaders said, "enough." I am grateful for them.

… which, I can agree, would be a year to have sung this tune.

But, each succeeding year, you would have thought, would be better.

When taken as a decade, I guess I was glad the first of the millennium's first one WAS over. Now, here we sit in the middle of the next decade, and where are we on this journey?

I'll have to defer it to wherever we are as citizens of the world. We ain't gonna take it anymore?

Maybe we mean it this time!

10. Good riddance..

Mom died in October, the Republicans had a good election year and the Bay Area had the worst earthquake since 1989. On the bright side the Giants won the World Series, the 49ers got rid of Harbaugh and we were treated to three of the best hero movies (Winter Soldier, Guardians and Big Hero 6) yet.

21. Amen to that, brother!

My nearest and dearest have had to deal with some major health & personal issues, but we've all made it through, and with some very loving acts of kindness to and from others along the way. I have encountered some opportunities to do some very emotionally rewarding volunteer work in my community, and have gotten others to make similar commitments.

With all the greed and violence in our world, I still hold out hope for the future.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
By Emily Dickinson
“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -

I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

85. I totally get that. Reminds me of something Jonathan Winters said.

I interviewed him once (and fell in love, of course) and he talked about how anything and everything is great as long as it isn't "the ol' dirt nap." I think, as I remember the quote, it was - "sure beats the ol' dirt nap!"

Years later, a woman I know spoke her own version: "anything above the dirt can be handled."

Can't really top that, 'eh? Sorta spells it all out at its very most basic.

Happy New Year to my DU brothers and sisters! And you're all honorary members of our "ACIDIC family," too! So THERE!

Rock on!

16. Yup...a not so good year from my POV.

-I went broke during the past school semester paying for groceries and bills (and had to cut my cable off), and have no money saved up.
-my aunt died from pneumonia, and my mom was laid off from her job.
-I met a friendly and attractive woman online, but she happens to live near the epicenter of the Ukrainian conflict.
-the A's choked and didn't make the postseason after trading away their best player, and the Raiders yet again had one of the worst records.
-the GOP gained seats in Congress.
-the police nationwide have been killing unarmed people who look like me left and right.

On the plus side, I learned many things throughout the year to make myself a better man and have learned from personal mistakes and the mistakes of others. Here's to a brighter 2015.

- 30 maybe 50 or 100,
the feed-back loops ensure that regardless of what humans do, the laws of physics now take-over and there is no way to stop it.

and the dems have not taken the dramatic action that would have been necessary,

which is not to say that the repubs aren't worse, of course they are.

but now it is the difference between the human race has 30 years left or 100 years left, doesn't seem much of a difference.

29. 2014- retail movement for a living wage continues,

drive for a minimum wage takes off.
Walmart workers on strike!
let's give the rank and file, every day Joe and Josephine some credit,
it hasn't all been bad.

the Black Lives Matter movement

students around the country from middle school to high-school walked out of school for a better education, and in opposition to test madness.

Middle-school?! Were you marching when you were in middle-school? I sure wasn't.
A big hat-tip to those school-children.

Medical Interns come out to support "Black Lives Matter"

...no...it wasn't all bad, by any means....

30. Lots of good too, my son married, grandson was born, hubby & I reconnected biking across america

I will always remember 2014 as a year of healing for my family, after we lost my mother in 2013.
However, I *can* enthusiastically get behind the idea of 2015 being even BETTER!!!

67. Me, too.

Not a single friend, family member, or pet died in 2014, unlike almost every other year since 1998. Other than 6 months of dental issues, 2014's been OK. I'm optimistic about 2015.

Crappy year, glad it will be over soon. I'm going to really try to do some things different in 2015. The old ways of doing things have been producing less and less returns as the years have passed. It's time and I ain't getting any younger.

66. Yeah, 2014 pretty much sucked, with a few exceptions.

We lost our precious Peanut, at 16 1/2, but eight months later got our darling Pebbles. My spine problems have spiraled out of control and I'm heading to surgery. UGH.

But the biggest sucky thing was the disgusting 2014 midterms!

Lost Roxy our 16 y.o. white shepherd (that's a long life for a GSD) and Chi, our 18 y.o. Siamese. I too am headed to the saw bones to try and get my radial nerve in pinched. It's causing major problems. Mrs. Borings father left the planet so it really sucked for her.

Get the fuck out 2014 and may all of you have a great, or at least better 2015.

Diplomatic relations with Cuba, falling gas prices, and an executive order that might finally bring some sanity to immigration policy.

For film fans, this was a tough year:

about June when I realized that everyone seemed to be having a shitty year.

I don't know if it was the moon, the stars, the alignment of the planets or what but this year sucked major ass up until its last dying seconds. Good fucking riddance to 2014 and praying FERVENTLY that 2015 is much, much better.

106. 2014 not my best year but definately not my worst year.

I work with a lot of homeless people with serious behavioral health problems. I worry about them a lot. Someone here on one of the forum recommended a book called The Four Agreements and there was one part of that book that has resonated with me. It says to do your best everyday. So everyday on my way into work after I chant and pray I remind myself to do my best for that day. It's given me a lot of hope.

I wish you all hope for 2015!
