NYC mayor, commissioner saluted when entering slain officer's wake
BY SEBASTIEN MALO
NEW YORK Sat Jan 3, 2015 4:55pm EST
(Reuters) - New York City police officers saluted as Mayor Bill de Blasio and his police commissioner entered a Brooklyn funeral home on Saturday for the wake of a policeman killed in an ambush last month that deepened a rift between the mayor and the NYPD.
Ahead of the wake for Wenjian Liu, Commissioner Bill Bratton told officers to refrain from the "act of disrespect" seen at the funeral of Liu's partner, Rafael Ramos, when thousands of officers turned their backs on de Blasio.
"A hero's funeral is about grieving, not grievance," Bratton wrote in a memo to be read on police roll calls over the weekend. The funeral is set for Sunday.

(30,803 posts)1. Good. Their behavior last week was obscene.
And i expect it proved to be very much counterproductive for the NYPD.

The behavior last week was horrible by the police union

IMHO (meaning last week's back-turning was really misplaced)

I'm glad Commissioner Bratton put his foot down on this.
Such an awful spectacle at Officer Ramos' funeral.

Disrespected last time, save for this one officer, shown in this picture. Bratton's memo was acted upon and it is good:
So glad to see them not mock this man's funeral.
I just hope it was due to rethinking their horrible behavior at Officer Ramos's funeral at not just because their actions backfired.
I find it hard to believe that any will turn their backs tomorrow but that remains to be seen

NYPD for their wretched behavior.

Police officers doing what they're supposed to do ought not be cause for notice! (My annoyance is not directed at the OP.)
