This officer sounded like a really good man. However, the contrast between de Blasio's eulogy and Bratton's is just irritating me right now. If you are watching, I'd like to know your opinion.
Melissa Harris Perry had a reporter on just now who said that outside the building hundreds of officers turned their backs when the mayor spoke.

(37,364 posts)lecturing people on how wonderful and virtuous cops are. I know there are lots of good officers out there but there are some real stinkers. I would like one of these leaders in law enforcement to just step foreward and acknowledge this fact and to acknowledge the very real problems with policing practices with an eye toward change.

(16,286 posts)against the bad cops, reporting on the bad cops, then I will agree with that statement.
But I understand your point.
I will keep going back to mine, when the society they "enforce" has the highest per capita gun ownership, you give cops an excuse to not only be armed to the teeth but to abuse their power.

(50,141 posts)inherent racism within the ranks. The Mayor had the audacity to speak about the discussion he had with his son if he finds himself interacting with the police. He merely spoke the truth, the fact that black men are all too often treated differently, treated with suspicion by some members of the NYPD and, because he addressed the stark truth, he is treated with contempt.
It is beyond appalling and is very telling, imo.
