Christian Science Monitor re: Palin, Palin's dog and PETA

If the case of United States v. Michael Vick was clear, then the case of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals v. Sarah Palin is perhaps less so.

Late last week, Ms. Palin, the former Alaska governor whose m.o. includes shooting large guns at large animals while sporting a large smile, posted a few pictures to her Facebook page that she apparently found sweet rather than horrifying. They are of her 6-year-old son, Trig, standing on the family dog, Jill, step-ladder-style, so he can help Mama Grizzly do the dishes.

Her message: "May 2015 see stumbling block turned into a stepping stone on the path forward."

year old child do the dishes for the very reason they are too small to reach the sink? Let mama grizzly do her own dishes. Although, from what Bristol's baby daddy said when he was living with them, mama did not cook for them or even spend much time with them.

his chores. Apparently Sarah is rumored for treating her kids like unpaid help. Regardless, if he can't reach the sink, he's too young to participate. What about knives and forks that could hurt him?

Sarah's an ass for treating the dog like that, ignoring the potential for harm of both the dog and child. But slamming her for Trig helping? I won't do that

I also changed my baby sister's cloth diapers. I thought I was helping, not being abused.

Sarah's stupid on so many levels; for instance she really should get a stool for the kid, because he's too big and heavy to be standing on the dog and if the dog moves Trig could fall (there's a really cute counter-photo from someone with a very big dog and a little girl who looks between 18 and 24 months old -- that dog looks like "Here she goes again," but the difference in sizes is okay to my eyes). But I cannot fault Sarah for teaching her child to wash dishes, which can be a fun and splashy activity.

I wonder why Mrs. Palin didn't write an open letter to them, too? Unless, of course, she made the simple calculation that by mentioning PETA, she could take the focus off her own behavior and grab for the coveted mantle of victimhood.

CSM is usually a little more astute.
