#NYPD officers if you really wanna make a statement, don't turn your backs to the Mayor, turn in your guns and badges and resign in protest.

(82,849 posts)Which means that folks who produce those items are rip off trolls, first of all, and if they're selling the images, profiting off of someone else's work without that person's permission. While I'm not a fan of the perpetual copyright that the Disney corporation has managed to wangle for itself, basic courtesy should mean not stealing someone else's work, particularly when the artist is still alive.

In a sense, Bill Watterson could have stopped all this, and made a lot of money to boot.

(5,043 posts)Is that what the protest is about, you think? Is this simply a negotiating tactic?
I bet the Police Union would deny it if anyone asked.

(3,212 posts)They're not that stupid!
They were given a "request" not to turn their backs. They were not given an order.
Personally, I think it was a very stupid public relations move on their part.

All previous mayors had issues with NYPD, but I think De Blasio is going to out mayor the previous mayors.

(11,589 posts)Why don't you tell us all how you really feel? I'm not going to do the research you seem to want other people on this board to understand.
Please, proceed.
TexasMommaWithAHat
(3,212 posts)Since one might not have satisfied you.
How do I feel?
I generally support the cops. I have no hatred for the cops. I've liked every cop I've met, even the one who gave me a speeding ticket.
I also see that some cops do bad things. I think some are bad when they join the force, and some get hardened after dealing with criminals day after day. I also think that most cops don't want to be the city's revenue collectors, and would rather not arrest the same man multiple times for the same petty crime.
I also understand why they are furious with de Blasio for reappointing Judge Johnson.
Oh, and by the way, I read about the story on Discussionist (where I am not a member). The article posted there was from the New York Post, so I looked for another link for you. As for as the young man the judge freed without bond, he didn't show up for court! And he has a couple of outstanding charges against him, including illegal possession of a gun. http://www.discussionist.com/101494479 (I assume it is not against the rules to post to Skinner's other site.)
Peace.
Raine1967
(11,589 posts)and if they are, they have REALLY shitty PR.
I say this because they used 2 funerals for political purposes.
I don't care one whit about about whatever website you linked to BTW.
You appear to generally support an anti-deBlasio sentiment. I am basing that on my communication with you.
TexasMommaWithAHat
(3,212 posts)in more than a generic way, although I'm pretty darn sure I would give him more support than Goolag-ani. Whether or not I would have voted for him in a dem primary - I don't know.
And I'm pretty sure any possible peace between deBlasio and the police union was not at all helped when he reappointed Judge Johnson. That was a fail on his part. That's just the way I see it based on what I'm reading.
I think what you are reading in my posts is a general support for the police - despite the terrible actions of some. It is not a much liked position here, but so far, I don't think it's part of the party platform that we must all hate the cops.
Yes, I do have cops in my family. And firefighters, too.
Raine1967
(11,589 posts)I'm surprised more didn't turn their backs.
All previous mayors had issues with NYPD, but I think De Blasio is going to out mayor the previous mayors.
You said he asked for it.
I took issue with that. Once again. nice straw man, I never ever once alluded to anything that you suggested when you stated this:
Bold face mine.
You said the mayor asked for it.
I personally don't care if you have LEO or firefighters in your family. That has nothing to do with the issue you brought up.
Good night.
TexasMommaWithAHat
(3,212 posts)And anyone else reading - yeah, I think deBlasio knew exactly that he was going to piss off the police union.
That may make some here happy - but it is not going to bridge the divide between him and the union.

(11,589 posts)You have a DU name with Texas init and you are here to tell us all about The NYPD and its relationship with previous mayors?
I lived in NY my entire life until 2006.
I worked in the city for many years.
I will never say that it has always been peaches and roses but what you are saying is nothing more than a total and complete straw man from the actual issue.
The NYPD and the PBA are not doing this because of a reappointment.

Raine1967
(11,589 posts)it is, then I think you and the back turners at the NYPD have a really serious problem.
Unions don't use funerals as a negotiation tactic.
nice straw man, btw. I gotta give you credit for that.

(6,036 posts)Cops are Civilians and not subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So adultery won't put them in prison, nor any of the many more regulations that apply only to members of our military. (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard, active duty and reserve are the only ones subject to UCMJ)

(15,236 posts)Failure to meet dress code results in referral for retraining. Conduct of officers is the responsibility of department. When wearing a uniform they are told what to wear and there are also regulations for non uniform officers.

Surprised this hasn't flooded Twitter already.
Silly memes aside, agree with the OP and saw that terrific sentiment first thing this morning. That tweet is really getting around!

(10,650 posts)They would be extremely naïve to think all cops always do the right thing and never commit crimes. Of course, they know that isn't true. They just unite behind any cop no matter what he or she has done. Civilians be damned.
