Top U.S. lawyer Dershowitz: can his accusers in sex abuse case be disbarred?

(Reuters) - Well-known U.S. criminal defense lawyer Alan Dershowitz has vowed to seek the disbarment of two lawyers representing a woman who has accused him of sexually abusing her when she was underage. But legal experts said he faces an uphill battle.

In a filing in Florida federal court last week, former federal judge Paul Cassell and Florida plaintiffs attorney Bradley Edwards said that their client was forced as a minor by financier Jeffrey Epstein to have sex with several people, including Dershowitz and Britain's Prince Andrew.

Dershowitz, a Harvard University professor emeritus, represented Epstein against sex crime charges, for which he served a 13-month sentence after pleading guilty in 2008.

Dershowitz is a first class Putz. I hope he goes down with his pals.

Dershowitz justifies war on Iran (and Iraq? again?)

Here’s some of what Dershowitz said last night in his Jewish Federations-sponsored speech (taken from notes that are imperfect, so these aren’t direct quotes):

–Protecting Israel is one of the great human rights issues of the 21st century.

–(During the audience Q and A): Noam Chomsky and Norman Finkelstein hate America. They hate liberalism. They hate Western values. Make it clear that people who love liberty love Israel.

–Attacking Iran would not be preemptive, it would be reactive. Iran is already engaging in war with Israel. It has armed Hezbollah, Hamas….Israel has a right to attack.

From the article:

Cassell, who left his post as federal judge in 2007, describes himself as an advocate for crime victims. He has championed the death penalty - and unsuccessfully pushed to overturn the 1966 Supreme Court decision requiring police to read detainees their rights.

How can you be an advocate for crime victims when you've championed the DP and pushed to overturn the 1966 landmark Miranda Rights law? It appears that ex-judge Cassell is a "hanging judge", and most likely a Republican who has an ax to grind with Progressive Alan Derschowitz.

That attorney, Cassell, is neither, and he apparently has an ax to grind - preferably in Dershowitz's back.

managed to not support torture, not get on the bomb-Iran platform, and not support every suggestion that we go blow up more muslims. I don't quite get your point re Dershowitz. He was once a pretty good guy, he went totally fucked about 15 years ago.

Yes, indeed, I hope he gets his own "come-uppance" if there is any validity to the charges.
