We’ve all seen spit-takes on sitcoms and in movies. But it’s rare to actually experience one in real life.

Today I was lucky enough to be drinking my morning Timmies when I read the news that Sony is introducing a new Walkman music player. And it will cost US$1,200. ... Fortunately, the spray of double-double that exploded from my mouth appears to have done no lasting harm to my laptop screen.

With the annual Consumer Electronics Show currently in full swing in Las Vegas, there’s lots of talk about curved TVs and wearable electronics and Internet-connected light bulbs and so forth. But a $1,200 device designed only to play music? In 2015? My mind, it is blown.
....

And it’s clear Sony intends the neo-Walkman to be a niche product aimed at high-end audiophiles, or those who fancy themselves as such and have wads of cash burning holes in their pockets. With its 128 GB of internal storage, ultra high-end sound processors and lossless audio file formats, it is quite likely the best portable audio device on the planet.
