Should DU try to compete with the mainstream media..?

...OR simply regurgitate what is reported by them?

Should DU attempt to give more original thought on the issues of the day or should we attempt to find a link that explains it for us?

I have always tried to be an "original" thinker, at the risk of being out of step with many in the media. I have tried to be provocative by questioning the status quo. I'm sure I have turned off many readers over the years with my questions?

But, what should be our primary goal? Is it to be supportive of the Democratic Party and its goals or is it to question the powers that be, regardless of Party affiliation?

What is more important? To keep the status quo or to change the way people think?

for news. I'm not interested in what mainstream news sources have to say, for the most part. A wide variety of news sources are posted here and I like to check out stories from the better alternative sources.

DU used to be a great site for commentary as well, but it hasn't been so great lately. I have some favorite people whose posts I look out for, but I try not to waste time reading trivial, argumentative shit. It seems to me that threads with the most replies are often the least worthy of attention. I expect things to get better, though. This place waxes and wanes in quality.
