Roger Ver is your typical free-loading libertarian millionaire: Loved all the perks he got from living in the United States, didnt think he should pay for them. In fact, he was so incensed at the idea of having to pay taxes on his millions that he totally earned in a complete vacuum having nothing to do with the infrastructure created by the tyrannical government that in 2014, he renounced his citizenship and ran off to live in St. Kitts, a tropical island with almost no taxes.
Except now hes upset because the US wont let him back in:
Ver complains that the decision has forced him to miss speaking appointments at conferences and that the US embassy in Barbados refused to even consider the evidence for his application.
The official reasoning behind Vers rejection is that he doesnt have sufficient ties to his country of residency in the Caribbean and has not demonstrated he has the ties that will compel [him] to return to your home country after your travel to the United States, according to a picture he tweeted of a letter that appears to be from the embassy.
In short, US officials are worried that Ver might choose to stay in his native country illegally.
Ver is known as Bitcoin Jesus because he fetishsizes the cryptocurrency that hes hoping will overthrow the evil tyrannical government. Of course, like all libertarians, Ver doesnt really care what happens to all the people not already rolling in bitcoins because he got his, so to the hell with them. The most annoying part of his hypocrisy? Ver worships a virtual currency that literally only exists because the United States government he loathes so much spent millions of taxpayer dollars to develop the internet that Bitcoin cannot exist without. What a complete and utter tosser.
It might seem petty for the US to deny Ver entry but lets be honest, if you renounce your citizenship for the explicit reason that you already made your millions and dont want to pay back into the system that allowed you to become wealthy, youve broken the social contract and the United States owes you absolutely nothing. He can go scratch where the sun dont shine.

(53,661 posts)To which they have no respect after 'getting theirs,' as they had sprung from the head of Zeus in all their grandoise ideas of how much they are than anyone else.
Quite obnoxious in real life, and often highly aggressive with anyone they meet who stands in their way to 'getting more.' Unless you become one the 'true believers' with them, you are 'sheeple' and deserve to be robbed outright.

(96 posts)Whether it is paying taxes, complying with anti-discrimination laws, etc. conservatives believe these are "self-made" men and women who should be able to do whatever they want and keep all their profits.
What they fail to recognize is that any business in this country enjoys the benefits of being in the U.S. They benefit from our laws that protect business owners from liability from corporations to limited liability companies, etc. They benefit from the infrastructure businesses (to the extent they pay local and federal taxes) and individual taxpayers provide. They benefit from an educated (over time we will have to qualify this one) workforce. They benefit from an open, competitive marketplace. They benefit from access to our courts to enforce contracts, labor disputes, etc. The list goes on and on.
So when they don't want to pay their fair share and leave the country, I believe they should not be allowed in without satisfying all the requirements for a visa. They should have to undergo an interview, etc. with the rest of them "at the back of the line". They should not be able to participate in any visa waiver program because they have shown contempt for the U.S. by renouncing their citizenship.
I hope this guy never gets back into the country. If you don't want to pay you don't get to play.

(95 posts)Conservatives and Libertarians forget that paying your taxes is like paying your dues to the union. The very same unions that they hate and disparage daily. If you are a member of a club or a union your paying your dues or your taxes helps the union or the club do activities to benefit its membership. If you don't pay into that you don't get to do some of the fun things that everyone is doing! Conservatives and Libertarians can talk all they want government tyranny, quote Ayn Rand "Objectivism" philosophy all day every day until the cows come home and the rooster comes home to roost. If to want to be an American citizen and enjoy all its benefits PAY YER FUCKING TAXES!!!!!

OR
He can get a robot like the one Edward Snowden is forced to use for personal appearances, because the government threw him out like moldy bread by cancelling his passport when he blew the whistle on it.

(6,699 posts)Great karma, for sure! Once you renounce your citizenship, I think we need to make it EXTRA difficult to EVER enter back in the USA. Fook'em. They basically told us, "Fook U". What goes around, comes around.
Stay firm!!
