The central Kafka-esque logic that keeps Guantanamo Bay prisoners there

The reason it takes so long to find Gitmo prisoners places to stay could have been written by Kafka.

The fact is, it is illegal for DoD to repatriate most of our prisoners. It's illegal because... wait for it... they might be tortured if we sent them back.

Yes, I know how fucked up that is. Yes, everyone in DoD and State knows how fucked up that is. But that's the law, and it's what's limiting the repatriations right now (and, for that matter, try to pitch a law changing that, allowing detainees to be repatriated to countries where it is reasonably probable they will be tortured). I'm glad to hear about the Yemeni's who got into Estonia; that's a good sign.
