6. The 6th Circuit Court ruled in favor of gay marriage bans.

This put the 6th at odds with the 10th, 4th, 7th, and 9th circuit courts which all ruled against gay marriage bans.

Due to the disparate rulings, the SCOTUS must make a ruling.

4. June? Geez take your time...

The same-sex marriage ban they are reviewing (one of them anyway) is the overturning of the Michigan state constitutional amendment. the ruling to overturn the ban happened last MARCH before another judge stayed the overturning.... it was then appealed to the Supreme Court. so that will be 15 months between the appeal and the hearing of the case while gays and lesbians in Michigan sit in limbo.

5. Actually, this is unusually fast for the SCOTUS to take up a case

3-5 years is more typical.

7. That's when SCOTUS usually release their rulings

for cases they have heard during their session for the year. They're hearing the case in April. That's a pretty quick ruling.

11. The question is how will the SCOTUS parse this such that they let same sex marriage stand

while still allowing "religious" groups to discriminate against the LGBTQ community. Should be an interesting dance, and one that could be really annoying.
