GOP congressman says kids and minorities aren't worth more than $7 and hour...

This Kooky Kalifornia Kongressman... (KKK)

GOP Rep: Minorities Aren't Worth More Than $7 An Hour

The minimum wage debate has seen Republicans defending the status quo as they usually do to support corporations over workers in a variety of ways and ludicrous sound bites. We can now add California Rep. Tom McClintock to the list of idiots.

In today's America, earning ten dollars an hour is not going to really support a family in any meaningful way or be considered a good living wage, but is a necessary step to improve conditions for low-wage earners. However, in Rep. McClintock's view, raising the minimum wage would not help them and only destroy our entire fabric of employment.
Raw Story:

California Republican Rep. Tom McClintock said on Thursday that the minimum wage should not be raised because low pay was necessary for minorities and other unskilled workers who were not worth more than $7 an hour.

Obviously, the argument would be flawed even if most of them were actually kids (and certainly if they were minority adults), but the truth is that 2/3 of them are white and mostly white women. So, not only is his argument beyond basic decency, but his premise is totally wrong.

So can we drop identity policies on these issues and focusing on allowing people to earn decent wages.

That group represents 4.3% of the nation’s 75.9 million hourly-paid workers and 2.6% of all wage and salary workers. In 1979, when the BLS began regularly studying minimum-wage workers, they represented 13.4% of hourly workers and 7.9% of all wage and salary workers. (Bear in mind that the 3.3 million figure doesn’t include salaried workers, although BLS says relatively few salaried workers are paid at what would translate into below-minimum hourly rates. Also, 23 states, as well as the District of Columbia, have higher minimum wages than the federal standard; people who earned the state minimum wage in those jurisdictions aren’t included in the 3.3 million total.)

People at or below the federal minimum are:

Disproportionately young: 50.4% are ages 16 to 24; 24% are teenagers (ages 16 to 19).
Mostly (77%) white; nearly half are white women.
Largely part-time workers (64% of the total).

He is not worth $7 an hour, but at $7 an hour, 8 hours a day, 135 days a year -- he is worth $7,560.00. What does a Congressman make ?? Close to $175,000 me thinks -- ?? Not counting the extra bits from the K bros.

twice what a Congressman is worth! Ridiculous. I think it's like four times as much.
