Gloria Meets with Black Student Justice Coalition

(Reporting San Diego Exclusive)

Jan. 22, 2015 (San Diego) Mark Jones and two other membesr of the Black Student Justice Coalition (BSJC) met with Council Member Todd Gloria.

The conversation was fruitful and Gloria’s office said:

“I appreciate the perspective of the Black Student Justice Coalition and believe the request to examine the city’s Citizens Review Board on Police Practices (CRB) is especially worthwhile,” said Councilmember Todd Gloria. “As a member of the Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods Committee, I believe a public hearing to thoroughly assess the CRB would be helpful to ensure it is serving its purposes of providing citizen oversight to policing and building trust between the police and the neighbors they serve and protect.”

Jones told Reporting San Diego “speaking with Gloria was an encouraging experience for myself and the other two members of the BSJC that attended. We felt that he was in tune with the problems we are experiencing and that he genuinely wanted to help.”

These meetings have come in the wake of a demand sheet given to several members of the City Council during the inauguration back in December, after a peaceful protest.
