The Dems will get their ass kicked in 2016 if they cave on TPP. Dems voting for it will lose like the Dems who lost when Clinton coerced them to vote for NAFTA. And everything Obama says he wants will be seen as a lie. I do not understand this bipartisan crap of passing what the GOP originally negotiated.
It is just plain insanity to pass TPP. And it really could give us a GOP nutcase as president with GOP control of Congress.

(11,175 posts)Proposition 1: If X happens it will dampen enthusiasm among Democratic-leaning voters and reduce the Democratic turnout.
Proposition 2: If X happens it will upset me and I won't vote.
It's possible for someone to assert Proposition 1 yet not assert Proposition 2. I'm often in that category myself. I can't imagine not voting in a Presidential election, but, even though I'll always show up, I can join in a discussion about factors that may cause other people to stay home.
An obvious example is voter ID laws. If I had to go out and get a special card to vote, sure, I'd do it. I recognize, though, that some people wouldn't, and that such laws tend to hurt Democrats. The OP is making the same kind of argument about TPP.

(11,417 posts)here who said they were not voting then after the low turnout was defended with nothing to vote for and our candidate was no better than theirs.
I am pointing out before the next election that no matter what some say here they still won't bother to vote yet they will still defend that non voting with ideas like TPP passing.

(11,495 posts)But anyone with any senses at all is not going to allow some dumbass republican to win by staying home and not voting over the TPP bull shit. Pushing this kind of meme, is right wing bullshit, plain and simple. It's like the doom and gloom crowed that states "both parties are the same" or the same bunch that want "purge" the party of anyone they don't like, it's all just bullshit in the end.
