Like you're insecure about anyone reccing, so you're 'salting' the recc jar, so that folks will see that at least one person already has, and are more likely to.

I'm talking those who K&R -- sometimes dozens of times -- just to keep their thread afloat. Threads sink for a reason. And if DU *rejected* the thread the first time around, the OP kicking it ad nauseam won't likely breathe new life into it.

I rec the threads that I think need attention (sometimes it's a newspaper article and not an op), so I will provide the fourth or fifth rec.

What I have noticed on DU is that sometimes these things turn out to be driven by the popularity of the poster. So some nonsensical (though admittedly amusing) things make it to the Greatest Page, while some important issues that might be hugely important to a minority group on DU wither on the vine.

I figure it's all good.

It's one website out of brazillions; one thing out of many we do in a day and of those things, probably the least important (and which threads get rec'd are even less important).

Though sometimes I wish we could rec responses since that's easier than typing out "nice post" or "what they said."

I automatically rec all my posts, so it only takes four recs to get to Greatest Page so more people will see it.

If I didn't want people to see it, why would I bother posting it? I recommend reading it. That's why I posted it.

If it's not getting any or already up to five, I often don't. I don't post threads for the general audience of DU.

But I wouldn't denigrate anyone for how they manage their posts. I don't care about Rec's except to get visibility for others' ideals or news I think need to be heard, or if I feel the person has put a lot into their OP.
