Iowa weekend told us a great deal about the GOP presidential field- Tonights debate says the rest

DNC Memo: Off to the Races

From: DNC Communications Director Mo Elleithee

On the heels of the first cattle call where candidates kissed up to Steve “deportable” King, tonight voters will see the first GOP primary debate hosted, appropriately, by the Koch Brothers.

This weekend tells you everything you need to know about the GOP presidential field – a score of candidates one day working to court the GOP base in Iowa with anti-immigrant rhetoric and commitments to infringe on women’s health care – and the next day kowtowing to the wealthiest few and special interests that they hope will fund their campaigns.

So as Steve King’s Freedom Summit wraps, and we turn to tonight’s Koch-debate with Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Rand Paul – here’s who you’ll be hearing from:

3 guys who are so hell bent on giving control back to insurance companies, that they shut down the government.

3 guys who oppose measures to increase opportunity for the middle class but will fight tooth and nail to cut taxes for corporations and the wealthy.

3 guys who have voted to block equal pay legislation that would help women address wage disparity, but have continued to work to advance legislation that will limit health care options for women and families.

3 guys who oppose allowing young Americans to refinance their student loans to improve their financial outlook while having no problem costing the economy $24 billion when they shut down the government.

3 guys who have railed against the President’s efforts on immigration – while Congressional Republicans fail to act on reform – apparently preferring the deportation of young DREAMers who have only known America as their home.

If this is the kick off of the GOP 2016 presidential contest – it looks a whole lot like what we’ve seen from the GOP in practice. Courting special interests and the ideological base while the middle class gets left behind.

There is not enough substance in with of these three to begin to be president of the US.

They're there to rile up the Nutcase Faithful. They're the opening act for the Jeb & Mitt Show. They keep the Drooling Class interested in the game and conceal the fact that the droolers actually have no say in whom their party nominates. The actual nomination will go to whomever the Really Big Money chooses. Right now, that looks like either Jeb or Roofdog.

...these are the candidates which energize the majority of the republican faithful. They are the type of candidates (if not the eventual ones) who will serve to draw Mitt and Jeb away from their faux moderate stances and bring out their extremes in the primaries, alienating the folks in the 'center' who normally determine the outcome; the ones who aren't already firmly rooted in their own ideology. That's the dynamic our candidates and eventual nominee will run against.

the lapdog M$M and a new wave of advertising have shown themselves pretty effective in clearing the Etch-a-Sketch.

(God, which campaign was that, with the Etch-a-Sketch flap?)

...the extremist agenda Democrats will run against.

Mitt and Jeb will play the 'moderates' and that aim is to wrap them into the rhetoric of the tea-party brigade and drive them as far right as their counterparts and their rabid electorate dictate in their primaries.
