His election is mostly due to the absolute worthlessness of Corbett, who combined unpopular policy with an unlikable personality. He won due to moderates rejecting Corbett, not due to any sort of progressive awakening.

PA's legislature remains under total republican control. Philly and Pittsburgh remain blue islands in a wide ocean of deep red.
