DUers using generators during the storm

please remember the rules re generators and carbon monoxide.
http://www.electricgeneratorsdirect.com/stories/7-How-to-Prevent-Carbon-Monoxide-Poisoning.html

There are two rules when using a generator. The first rule is “to obey all rules.”

The second rule is to "Never Use a Generator Indoors!"

Why? Just like your car, generators emit carbon monoxide gas -- the same stuff that kills people who leave their car running in the garage.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless and odorless gas. It’s also a very deadly gas because most victims don’t realize they are being poisoned.

Unfortunately, some people think their bodily fluids don’t stink either. So, they place their generators in their garages or underneath porches.

After the last 4-day outage I got a real generator, not one of those home depot garage monsters. The electrical service in the northeast depends on poorly maintained above ground lines and goes out with every major storm. All the competition introduced into the electric utility industry has done nothing at all to improve the infrastructure, then again, how could it? Instead every homeowner is on their own to provide reliability.

should be reliable. I could afford a generator. What about those who can't?

It's our priority today. There's nothing more miserable than living in the country dependent on pumps to provide water and discharge waste and running out of gas with 2 feet of snow on the ground. Oh . . . and provide HEAT! It's also 20 degrees colder this a.m.

(explosive) when it changes from monoxide to dioxide.

You'll want to know everything is in good working order long before the time of need arrives.

And use fresh fuel to ensure smooth operation.
