ISIS driven from the Syrian city of Kobané, jihadist group also losing ground in Iraq
Kobané and the surrounding area have been completely annihilated, but the ruins are now in the hands of the 'good guys'.

"After four months of violent clashes, Kurdish fighters have taken control of the Syrian city of Kobané, formerly in the hands of the organization of the Islamic State. Meanwhile, the jihadist group has lost several positions in Iraq. (Reported by Ain al-Arab, in Arabic.)
After months of fighting, the organization of the Islamic State (ISIS) has been thrown out of the Syrian city of Kobané by Kurdish forces. The jihadist group recorded its biggest defeat in Syria, where they have controlled large territories for over a year. This failure comes the same day that a military official in Iraq announced that Diyala province, in the east of the country, has been liberated from the extremist fighters."

Kurdish forces, initially under-equipped, managed to take the lead with the crucial support of the international coalition led by the US, which has made Kobané a priority since the beginning of air strikes in Syria 23 September. Seventeen strikes there were even conducted between Sunday night and Monday morning on positions jihadists, according to the command of the coalition. The EI, however, continues to monitor several dozen villages around Kobané."
