a question about the pentagon and legal marijuana

today in a civic discussion group, one of the members said that he had attended a briefing about one of our military bases (which, we are told on a regular basis, is going to reduce in size, though I have yet to see that reduction).

anyway, he said that the general giving the briefing stated that the pentagon has announced that it is seriously considering closing bases in the states with legal mj--because it is such a threat to the safety and well-being of the troops.

has anyone heard anything about this? (hey, I managed not to collapse in hysterical laughter when I heard it!)

All us grunts got over there, discovered really good weed, and got demotivational syndrome. Just sat around in our foxholes & bunkers, blowin' reefer & not wanting to do anything much.

We all lit up and by and by
The whole platoon was flying high.
With a beautiful smile on the captain's face
He smelled like midnight on St. Mark's Place.
Cleaning his weapon, chanting the Hare Krishna.

I got back.

An then I got into the antiwar movement, first while still in the Army at Ft. Hood. Google "Oleo Strut" in Killeen. I was peripherally involved with that crowd.

And then of course the streets of Madison, from January '69 until it sorta ended.

where there are bars since alcohol is responsible for thousands of deaths every year.

there was a very intense controversy over the fact that the military police were actually patrolling the downtown bar area--fully armed, of course.

"Concerned Nanny State Representatives" showed up at grand openings of retail shops and took pictures of "parents going into the shops." The HORRORS.

Why aren't they taking pictures down at the local liquor store? Most cops will tell you alcohol fuels a lot of rages. A lot of bad decision making. Cannabis not so much, if at all.

Why aren't they taking pictures down at the pain clinics, where parents are getting vials full of oxy and hydros and xanax? The cocktails of painkillers are destroying people.

Why focus on a benign plant, when so much evil has been going on for years?

I cannot stand hypocrites, and I cannot stand people who don't have lives of their own, who never learned to mind their own business.

people are parents? and, since it is now legal, what business is it of theirs anyway? probably some of the same people who protest outside planned parenthood.

must be nice to have so much free time on one's hands.

The Company Commander said matter of fact, that he would much rather have his troops using hash than alcohol. He said alcohol caused him many problems. Guys getting in fights in local establishments and not being there when needed, whereas the hash heads were always hanging around the base and could be relied upon in emergencies, since they were able to function where the drunks could not do anything. I guess things have changed some since way back then..
