Tabatha Manning cried softly as she sat mere feet from the man who killed her daughter, 5-year-old Payton Benson.

After Vincent Hicks pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and weapon use, he turned to Manning.

“I’m sorry,” he said, before being led away by sheriff’s deputies.

For Manning, it was a bit of comfort in the cruel year that has passed since Payton was killed by a stray bullet as she ate breakfast.

I like to read how child abusers get their just punishment - nothing is too severe in my opinion.
