(28,183 posts)Sure, there might be old telephone switching systems, but they all failed at some point.
Cell phones constantly get humped up, computers, and any other sophisticated electronics component.
Can you imaging if your brain chip does a POST while walking down the street?

My son thinks it could be cool to be a cyborg for the same reasons. Then I mention about circuitry failures, oxidation, corrosion, shorts, electrical failures, power spikes, EMF, natural brittleness over time, decomposition, eventual body rejection, etc. Just to protect from EMF, requires toxic MuMetal or something similar, and that add to weight to prevent. That get's him thinking.
Then there is that news article about how cells can only reproduce so many times before they die.
So, whether or not you are completely organic, a cyborg, or a total machine... failure is immenent.

(12,712 posts)There are advances in technology that suggest it is possible.
However, too bad the title of the poll included "everyone". I doubt that everyone in our dystopian future will get one unless it has the capacity to control them and deliver rewards and punishments for their behavior. Otherwise, the proles will not partake and the elite will have a new interface for gathering wealth and plundering the planet, or what's left of it.

That means 60% of the world's population -- about 4.2 billion -- will remain unconnected."
