(50,552 posts)Back in The Day, the first tool you put in any machine shop was a Bridgeport Mill. They're still made and they still sell. With one of these, a welder and a hydraulic press, you can do anything you'd want to do in the machinist trade.
Bridgeport claims you can make anything on a Bridgeport Mill, including a Bridgeport Mill...and to prove it, every six months they pick one new mill at random and make another one on it.
The theory you could make a 3d printer with a 3d printer is quite sound.

(420 posts)The post was funny because the poster was going to return the original printer after creating the copy. Get it, the printed printer would theoritaclly be free.

(420 posts)Equating building a Bridgeport with a Bridgeport. The effort required to build a manual milling machine with a manual milling machine doesn't compare to using a computer controlled machine to build a machine.
The comparison is equivalent to using a Bridgeport CONQUEST to build a series 1

(80,708 posts)I'm not exactly master of disguises. It's pretty obvious who I am over there.
I don't take it terribly seriously. Certainly there is enough noxiousness there, that one could write the whole place off- totally understandable. Still, it is what it is. There is no point in debating certain people on certain topics, but I don't think that all places need to have the tight controls on who can post, and what, that DU does. I'm glad DU is what it is, but that doesn't mean I feel every website for debate or argument or even shit-talking needs to be just like DU.
