Rate to be progressive.

Taxes on income are NOT too much if the income is great. What you may want to argue for is that income under a certain amount shouldn't be taxed.

But if you don't tax income, then manipulation games will be played to get around it. Hence why all sources of income should be taxed at same rate. No longer any reason to play the games.

Fri Feb 6, 2015, 04:33 PM

A century ago, all this stuff was hashed out and taxing income was seen as the best way to fund the government. However, they also decided that taxing low income made by the sweat of one's brow at the same rate as the plutocrat's coupon clipping income was immoral as well as incapable of fully funding a working government, so they instituted the progressive tax code, leaving most income from labor untaxed while socking it to the plutocrats.

What destroyed it is the oil shock induced inflation in the 70s, which pushed working people up into the middle and upper middle class brackets. Congress should have indexed the rates to inflation, but they didn't fucking think of it, as usual.

Enter Reagan.
