Now, that was in his younger years, but did it ever make sense to anyone, or am I judging from my ethnic background's standards?
I mean, he won't scare the horses, but handsome?

(36,286 posts)mention him being handsome as qualifying him for the Presidency. It's an old tradition.
"In 1920, political insider and friend Harry Daugherty began to promote Warren G. Harding for the Republican presidential nomination. Daugherty believed that Harding "looked like a president."

(5,514 posts)The value the media places on appearance, especially its relation to political credibility, is certainly a valid topic of conversation imo.

(21,046 posts)I've heard that sexist crap---women vote for the better looking of the two candidates, and the first time women got to vote for President was in 1920 for Warren G. Harding. "Typical woman voter" blaming women for electing John F. Kennedy, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Bill Clinton, like that was a bad thing.

(135,425 posts)There was a time in American politics when successful young politicians were expected to be:
1. Caucasian--check.
2. Male--check.
3. In possession of a good head of hair--check.
4. Having an appearance of fitness (i.e. not morbidly obese)--check.
5. Tanned--check.
6. Having all of the "important" teeth, which should be reasonably straight and not brown or green--check.
The bar was set quite low.

(115,669 posts)He got weirder-looking - not just older-looking - as his disastrous presidency dragged on. As a young man he didn't look like a drunken monkey; he was just another ordinary-looking WASP guy. Even as governor of Texas he looked fairly normal, and his speaking style was pretty normal as well. Once he got "elected" president, however, it seemed like he began to deteriorate in strange ways; his speeches got more incoherent and he began to look more and more like Alfred E. Newman. The presidency always ages people, but something else happened to that guy. Booze? Exposure to the dark, stygian evil of Dick Cheney?

(48,955 posts)Odd. Huh.
Jebbie is also doing the nerd glasses thing like Perry is doing. Er. The glasses don't make you like you are more serious - the policies speak to that... and Jeb, given your recent talk in Detroit, your glasses make you appear like you are play-acting.

(29,503 posts)Jeb Bush is so not in my type, but if there's one thing I've learned as I've lived a full, rich life, it's that as long as he has his male equipment, there are people out there who will insist he's 'hot'.

(42,641 posts)because she is "hot"?
The focus on looks is absurd and a reflection of the sad state of the American corporate media.
Much was made of Palin's supposed "hotness" but her attractive exterior was it. There is nothing below the exterior. She is an ignorant and unintelligent clown who, to me, is the female equivalent of Reagan and Bush the Second.
Jebba the Bush as President would be the second puppet for Dick Cheney to play with. As to Jebba's supposed intelligence, standing next to George W, nearly anyone would seem smarter. Simply a fact.

Jebs head is too big for his body and given his choices of advisors,he just wants to cultivate wars. I dont think the public wants a college drug-dealer, Florida destroyer, and corporate opportunist in the oval office.

(38,310 posts)... eugenics was a popular belief among "Anglo Saxon" upper class.
Then Hitler drove it underground.
I put the sarcasm tag in because I'm saying this sarcastically, but googling the topic will dredge up all sorts of conspiracy theory stuff, from the usual Lyndon LaRouche ravings, to worse.
I myself do not believe Jeb Bush's mom and dad are sister and brother.
