Nearly Frozen Waves Captured On Camera By Nantucket Photographer

http://boston.cbslocal.com/2015/02/26/nearly-frozen-waves-captured-on-camera-by-nantucket-photographer/

The record-setting winter of 2015 has left us with all kinds of remarkable images, most of them of snow and ice.

But a photographer on Nantucket found something most of us have never seen – nearly frozen waves.

Jonathan Nimerfroh was walking along a beach on the island recently when he saw these waves rolling in like slush.

The waves were semi-frozen because there was so much ice inside them.

26. no, very f'ing cold

It looks cool, but it is creating huge problems for ship navigation. You know harbor/ship lanes are a problem when this type of wave ice is present.

9. Dayum!!!

What I think most of us arrogant self-satisfied complacent humans forget is -

MOTHER NATURE IS WAAAAAAAAY BIGGER THAN WE ARE!!!! And it's not nice to mess with her. I don't even want to think of what she's capable of doing to us...

13. Meanwhile, the upper Chesapeake Bay is frozen over...

Extreme February cold ices over most of Chesapeake Bay in rare event

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/wp/2015/02/23/extreme-february-cold-ices-over-most-of-chesapeake-bay-in-rare-event/

Ice covers vast expanses of the Chesapeake Bay – likely more than at any time in years.

“Most of the Bay is frozen,” says Brian Jackson, an analyst at the National Ice Center. “The coverage extent is way above normal.”

Jackson says there aren’t good long-term records of Chesapeake Bay ice extent, but that this year’s levels are even more expansive than last year’s maximum reached at the end of January, which followed several outbreaks of bitter cold.

35. Once a shutterbug from Nantucket

Found surfers would not have to duck it.

The waves frozen in time,

Like words when cold hard to rhyme,

But because it is ice you can suck it!

There once was a dude from Nantucket
Who had a rep he could surf like a rocket
But his floatation device
Was hopeless on ice
So he laced up his skates saying #$%@ it!

36. True - on NPR a scientist this morning said the salt would be settled to the bottom

so if you scoop off the top, it will taste fine.

Maybe a bit of tuna or shark poop in there.

34. Lived on the North Shore in MN along Lake Superior. There were some huge storms that had

frozen waves that ended up being huge. And beautiful. Wish I had a pic to show you all.
