Can someone explain to me how Melissa Harris -Perry has a.show on Saturday

She's a nice looking lady but her show to me is not that good.I though Karen Finney's show was much better and she was canceled. In fact I just found out Karen isn't even a contributor anymore on MSNBC

There are a lot of MHP fans here on DU. I usually turn off the TV after Steve Kornacki (who I think deserves an evening show.)

I wondered what happened to Karen Finney. I liked her, too.

Kornacki allows all the right wing talkers push their lies and propaganda with out any push back. It is obvious he has decided to join the right wing blowhards to keep his job. Chris Hayes weekend show was tremendous and so much better than Kornacki's show. It is almost as if Hayes' promotion actually silenced him. Now there are rumors he will loose his evening show. too.

MHP is a bright spot in the wilderness of right wing propaganda.

I loved UP with Chris Hayes, his primetime show not so much and Steve Kornacki as the UP host, not so much. Hayes was much more effective with the morning show. I loved it.

You can tell sometimes when he is covering the same ridiculous story that all the other shows have rehashed to death that he is just barely keeping himself from blowing a cork. IMO, UP with Chris Hayes was consistently the very best news show NBC/MSNBC had going for decades. It was interesting, well paced, in-depth and was growing a loyal base of viewers. I do not have any idea why the suits felt compelled to mess that up.

Kornacki is really a disappointment. I thought he would be far more insightful, but he says a lot of things that show a parochial attitude and a very serious lack of depth. Sometimes he makes statements that are reminiscent of the ignorance of Chuck Todd. He is an example of the Peter Principle. He looked smart when he was on The Cycle. Now he is in way over his head.

I do not understand the criticism of MHP. I do not like everything she does, but she is far better than most of the MSNBC talking heads now. She is head and shoulders above the vapid Mrs. Greenspan. I was very sorry MSNBC cancelled Joy Reid's show. Joy Reid is another rare talent and whip smart. I hopes she lands something much better than the crap time MSNBC gave her.

I would turn the evening into one four-hour show where their obviously talented crew would appear together in twos and threes throughout the evening, discussing the news of the day and what it means to us. I would have one moderator and mix the contributors throughout the evening. I would love to see Maddow and Hayes discuss events together for example. In fact Chris Hayes might be the right person do be moderator.

She's either very preachy or very whiny. Karen Finney was much better and so was Joy Reid. I don't get it.

MHP covers a lot of topics the other shows don't, and the same topics from a different POV. I wish MSNBC would rerun her shows in the evening, instead of prison "reality" shows. They've already invested the money to make the show, why not try to capture more audience by rerunning it (like they do Hardball, Up, and TRMS) ?

Kidding. (Sort of.) But yeah, I always thought Harris-Perry was a little too much...something, hard to put a finger on it.

and I agree with you--they are definitely nice looking!
I'm a bit surprised, though, that MHP's show has lasted longer than KF's show Disrupt. They both pretty much discussed the same topics (especially what's going on in both the Black community and with women's issues), and I think KF and MHP are both smart and well-spoken. To me, they deserve more props than they're given on here and elsewhere. Most of the time when people talk about MSNBC, they just talk about Rachel Maddow, but there are other good shows on that channel besides hers.
Both MHP and KF deserved a much-better time-slot than they were given. Not many people are willing to get up early on weekends just to watch a political show, and most people go out on Saturdays and Sundays during the afternoons. If I were in control of things at MSNBC, I'd switch their time slots with either LockUp or the re-runs of Hardball and Chris Hayes. I miss watching Disrupt, and was sad when I heard last year that it got yanked. Now I don't have anything to watch on weekend afternoons except either YouTube or shows that I saved on TiVo.
