76-year-old College Station man accusing of punching, choking police officer

A 76-year-old College Station man charged at a police officer, punched her in the face and tried to choke her after getting pulled over for making an unsafe lane change, police said.

Arthur Lee Wright nearly struck the College Station police officer's patrol car when he made an unsafe lane change without a turn signal on Dartmouth Street on Friday morning, according to an arrest report.

When the officer told Wright she remembered him from a previous accident in which he struck another vehicle and that he would be receiving a citation, Wright stepped out of his car, swung the officer around and slammed her into his vehicle, according to the court document.

As the officer called for backup, Wright tried to choke her and swung his fists at her, the officer said in the report.

Wright was charged with assault on a public servant, which is a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. He was released from custody on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.

He punched her in the face and tried to strangle her. Sounds pretty violent to me.
