Progressive Democrats are cheering the funding of an organization that routinely violates our basic rights, was set up as a result of the egregious Patriot Act, and is responsible, through the FBI, of starting terror plots with the explicit intention of "defeating" them and thus padding its record. What I want to know: why the celebration? Do the people here actually believe that DHS is "protecting" them?

which was shoved under DHS, should not be funded? Particularly given the horrible weather that is happening right now across a large swath of the nation that may result in a few disaster declarations if predicted flooding occurs?

FEMA under the bus as the Infowarriors say, is the underlying message. For those who'll flood in the spring... Well, hey.

I saw how some came down on people living in red state hell when they had tornadoes in the last few years. Not pretty. But Libertarian as all get out.

Rand Paul wanted FEMA eliminated in the middle of Hurricane Sandy, said it should be privatized. Which only meant more people would have done without any help.

Same as this. I wish people would think about the big picture at times, but I've just about given up.

and make it a standalone agency again. Ever since Skeletor and Brownie were associated with it, it has struggled with trying to get back to their mission as the GOP continues to pummel it and try to defund it.

in any agency, the idea the agency should be fund-starved out of existence is rather Republican.

Just shows how insincere the Republicans are. They are the ones saying we need security so much after 911 that they invented this cabinet post for it.

1) the FBI is not in DHS, but rather the Department of Justice.

2) How does DHS violate your rights? I'm not aware of it violating mine.

3) Most of its employees would have been forced to work without a paycheck in a shutdown. Including union members.

4) The DHS includes:

a. The Coast Guard
b. Customs and Border Patrol
c. Citizenship and Naturalization Services
d. The Federal Emergency Management Agency
e.The Secret Service
f. US Immigration enforcement.

As it turns out, most people here know more than you do.

It wasn't like the GOP was going to give up any type of procedure to get their way in the dismantling of the US government. They have that plan. The one Sanders and Reid and others revealed. They are 'playing for keeps.'
