Potential State Ballot Initiatives for 2016

State ballot issues can be an effective way to directly change laws in the era of do nothing politics.

2014 saw 5 states raise the minimum wage through state ballot initiatives even in a few Republican controlled states.

2016 looks like it could shape up to be another strong year for state ballot initiatives on a wide variety of issues:

All across the country people will be putting together petition drives to get important issues on the ballot for 2016 to change laws directly though the votes of their citizens.

If there are issues that you know of in your state where poll after poll the majority of voters state they are for change on a specific issue; I would encourage you to get involved and work at this level to potentially make a difference. Even if a state ballot initiative loses it brings an issue to the forefront, educates people about the issue, and shows that there is merit to changing laws for the greater good of the people.

It would be great to see more petition drives working to protect voter's rights, raise minimum wages, push for universal healthcare, create state banks (one can dream) , etc etc to directly create laws that will benefit the people of their states.

Here's hoping for an exciting 2016 election year where true change on important issues is achieved.

Maybe more. There will also be efforts to get on the ballot in OH, MS, MO, SD. I don't know about those, though.

We get tired of waiting for state legislatures.
