(53,475 posts)... on the topic here this morning. The group "Preserve Waupaca" is wisely questioning this proposal. There are multiple pristine rivers here and the beautiful Chain-O-Lakes too!
From what little I've heard, I'm guessing this is a fracking sand mine.
I'll post more when I learn what happened.

I am a member. Tamaralane was going to open a mine in Oneida Cty 2 miles from our land on the willow flowage. The Lynne deposit. the locals told them to go away

Great that the project is withdrawn under any circumstance. It was very contentious project and the list of complaints regarding the permitting process of this mining project look remarkably like the list of complaints against King George and Parliament in the Declaration of Independence

(7,286 posts)The company decided to close the mine. According to sources the DNR and EPA were working with them. One report I saw said the EPA(or DNR I misremember) stated the company may have been to hasty to close shop.
As indicated, falling ore prices were a factor.
I am thrilled the mine is a non starter. But I feel it may come up again one day. The local economy up there is dying.
Also the "above Lake Superior" headline threw me for a loop. Above Lake Superior in elevation, not on a map. 'cuz I'm dumb
