Sure, parents are working to get Amazon to change the name of its Amazon Mom service to the more inclusive Amazon Family, but dont worry, ladies, the retail behemoth is launching a new service just for you: Amazon Prime for Women.
At least, thats the deal in this satirical clip created by comedian Paul Hale. Hale released the video for International Womens Day in an effort to highlight the gender wage gap in America. He uses statistics from the American Association of University Women, which reveal that ladies earn 78 cents for every dollar that their male peers take home. With Amazon Prime for Women, ladies can purchase 78 percent of an item for 78 percent of the price.
Its the Prime service you love, at a price you can afford, when youre taking home three-quarters as much as a man would for being equally as productive, says the clips fake spokesperson, portrayed by actor Lauren Ireland.
The problem of wage inequality impacts minimum wage workers and women who earn millions of dollars in Hollywood. But while Patricia Arquettes Oscars speech brought the issue of unequal pay to an international audience of millions, she also caught flak for seeming to only be talking about the plight of white women. As you can see in the above video, however, this new version of Amazon Prime is definitely looking out for black and Hispanic ladies. (Hint: Even less product will be shipped their way.)
