These are the signers. Senator Mark Kirk is among them. I will be calling, emailing and doing my best to get people from Illinois to do the same. As far as I am concerned, the mission is to make sure he is out after the next election. I hope you will all do the same with your representative.

I never thought I would see the day that ANY US official would actually go to another country, in a formal letter, and show such disrespect for our President, our policy and procedures and most importantly, our country. Each and every one of these bastards has to be ousted.

(16,104 posts)Or just plain treason?
I never voted for anyone who would side with hardline Iranians who hate America and mistrust every word and commitment we make.
The new Republican Party motto: "Death to America!"

(17,997 posts)Although it is not actually traitorous by law, it does break the Logan Act.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2015/03/09/republicans-are-beginning-to-act-as-though-barack-obama-isnt-even-the-president/
Actual Act, in part:
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

(60,010 posts)Are Congresspeople exempt from that Act?
Who can bring charges concerning the Act?
I am quite stunned by their behavior, which calls into question their intelligence and maturity.

(17,997 posts)They don't understand either the laws of the United States of Iran which is proven by their letter.
The Department of Justice prosecutes under the Logan Act. No, no one is exempt.

(17,997 posts)Bastard.
My NH senator - Ayotte - of course signed. Idiot.
Letters to the editors of several NH newspapers already sent off.
And contacted Ayotte's office. She's a Lindsey Graham/John McCain stooge.
Good for you. This is so beyond outrageous I can't even find the words
elias49
(4,259 posts)there isn't a single mention of the stunt on her official website, despite the many issues that are addressed...her "Press releases" section is poo. Well, she may not feel it's important for her constituents to know about it, but I do. So I'll 'help her' get the word out.

(17,997 posts)Fucking cowards. They realize what they did was stupid, illegal and showed their ignorance of not just iranian law, but our own, and don't know what to say to cover their asses.
