DUing while impaired

Last edited Fri Mar 13, 2015, 12:55 AM - Edit history (1)

Have you ever done something while impaired you regret later? It happened to me this afternoon here in GD. It will happen again if I stay as a regular.

Perhaps I should change my name to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Try to remember I'm not who I was when I joined a little over ten years ago. OS doesn't really exist anymore.

I wear plastic casts on my thumbs for arthritis in the daytime. Even simple copy and paste takes awhile. It took a couple hours to put this all together.

I wear braces on my hands at night until I have surgery in a month or two for carpal tunnel syndrome. Just one hand at a time.

I've been on a CPAP since 2001. It was very hard to kick lunesta a few years ago. There was a missed warning there.

Both shoulders and both sides of my neck have damage from 2 at work accidents, and a car accident back on Christmas Day a couple years ago on my way home from work.

By now I'm sure you know pain killers are part of my life. Mood swings and periods of lack of judgement are right out of the medical books for me with everything going on. Think of what Marta has to put up with.

A couple dozen DUers know what is slowly killing me. I thank every single one of them for keeping my secret. I'll write that tell all post when it is time to leave for good.

I'm going to try to be a real life volunteer for newly diagnosed terminal patients. I'm going downhill, so I have no idea how long it will last. Because of the nature of what I'll be doing is confidential, I really can't share much. My first venture is next week.

I'll be attending the state boys basketball tournament for I hope the next three days if my team keeps winning, so I won't be on the DU as much as I have been since I retired.

I love the DU. When the time comes to leave I will lose a huge extended & caring family. Sometime after that it will be the theme from M*A*S*H.

I do want to stay on the DU. Please let me know when Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde have overstayed their welcome, because I won't know it myself.

BTW, those cowards living in a cave don't bother me in anymore. They haven't for a long time!

Much love,

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde A.K.A. OS

2. I like your OPs

about labor, and I thank you for keeping us informed. In these days when there is so much mudslinging about this or that politician, you care about the working class and what is happening to them in America.

I'm sorry about your health problems. I rarely comment in your threads, but I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate what you do here. I've never seen a bad side.

You are an incredibly kind man, that has given so much of your heart here. I love you (make sure Marta knows it is as a brother) your kindness to me when my dad was dying helped me through.

I wish you and Marta peace during your struggle. My thoughts are with you both. Stay with us as long as you can.

31. I don't know when it was

that I came to realize you were in such a state but it did remind me of an important action that we could all participate in... especially when you made a similar post concerning this a while back because you had a rough day and felt the need to express your truth. Forgiving is important and we should all have the compassion to do so when situations like yours end up making for a bad moment or two.

I, personally, truly appreciate your participation and contribution here, I think of you as a wise "elder" on this site. (By elder I mean like the revered wise ones in any family or tribe who have seen so much in life that they have insight most can only aspire to possess.)

Bad days and moments happen to everyone in a myriad of ways, yours sound hard to bear and because I understand suffering and the break in composure that can overwhelm us at times, I will always forgive you for them when they occur here.

I do hope you will be with us for some time as you still have much to teach us. But I also don't want you to suffer beyond you ability to bear what you do endure. I thank you for staying with us through it all, even when you have rough moments that might even ruffle the feathers of some who don't know.

Carry on, cyber friend, we will cover for you when necessary because those of us who do know will be here to do just that... because we love and respect you.

75. wishing your team the best

I see someone else also said this, but there is nothing like the lift having the local heroes winning the tournament can give a person and a town.

sure wish there was something I could do to turn the clock back for you.

60. Sorry about all that bad stuff, OS.

Good luck to your team in the basketball tournament. There's nothing like it.

Forwarding healing vibes.

68. Feel free to visit us at the Chronic Health Conditions Forum. Peace

It's pretty good and we sickies stick together.

I'm sorry for whatever has got you.

Re: Pain and Pain meds. Do you live in a state that allows cannabis, or do you have a mailbox (or better yet, a friend with a mailbox who is out of town with regularity)? Cannabis is helping me greatly.

71. Steve,

There are certain people I think of when I think of why DU is such an amazing place. Stand outs amoung very special people.

You are most definitely near the top of that list. I don't know how long you have, heck none of us know how long we have, but before either of us check out I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you have contributed to this forum.

Know that I'm in the majority thinking this.

Hugs

Kev

76. I didn't see it, nor do I feel the need to find it...

You get a pass, every time. You are one of my favorite DU'ers and you represent the best of us all. We love you and we're here for you, so go forth and do good, as you always do!

77. FWIW, I've never noticed you being egregiously nasty

What I've seen is an uncharacteristically thin skin from time to time. I get that when the pain medication wears off, myself, and if I notice it, I just sign off until I can take another pill and function for a few more hours.

I'm on my way, too, but what's killing me is doing it very slowly. The bad part is that I'll go completely goofy at some point. I hope Skinner is kind and wears slippers instead of boots when my butt gets kicked out of here.

I think a lot of us are on our way. We old boomers are getting up there and it happens.

Omaha Steve

I wish you the best - and if I have had the money - I would have given it - so you could get what you deserve to have gotten....

And please - do continue to write here on DU as long as you is able to do so - as your toughs and writings is something I try to read when I catch it - it is always a thoughtfulness around it, and I like to read what you write

81. Dear Dr. OS Jekyll and OS Hyde...

I may never know your secrets, but I WILL know you by your great posts.

I could give two sheets about any cave dweller here. I've been smacking em around from dungeon days on DU 2. I believe the know-nothing party invades everything they can.

Please do me a favor after your tournament, follow up on your sleep device for optimal compliance. PM me any time, as I'm sort of an insider on that. I have mild carpel tunnel and don't need the surgery (yet), but I'd be willing to research anything just to get you through that dark night.

Your fan,

MMM

82. damn, bro

I hate hearing about you suffering. It's always the good ones that take the huge load on their shoulders. Sending all the strength, courage and healing vibes I can. I've never seen you make a bad post. Never. Whoever was giving you a hard time is probably an asshole. Fuck Them.

To be more serious, you obviously have done much good while you've been here. Meditate on that in your darker moments. Best wishes to you and your family.

84. Sorry to hear of all your problems

have you tried alternative ways of posting? Could you use Dragon Naturally Speaking?
http://www.nuance.com/dragon/index.htm

You could post and browse with only your voice. You have to train the software and learn the browsing commands. I tried the voice rec software that comes with Tablet XP. It was slow and limited but did work. I tried browsing on an older version of Dragon and that worked quite well.

85. It has been years since I have partaken in any fun shenanigans,

but my funniest night was back when the DUzys still existed and I won one that time. I'm a LOT more likable when I'm drunk off my ass, lol. I should do it more often, but I just don't.
