Have you ever done something while impaired you regret later? It happened to me this afternoon here in GD. It will happen again if I stay as a regular.
Perhaps I should change my name to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
Try to remember I'm not who I was when I joined a little over ten years ago. OS doesn't really exist anymore.
I wear plastic casts on my thumbs for arthritis in the daytime. Even simple copy and paste takes awhile. It took a couple hours to put this all together.
I wear braces on my hands at night until I have surgery in a month or two for carpal tunnel syndrome. Just one hand at a time.
I've been on a CPAP since 2001. It was very hard to kick lunesta a few years ago. There was a missed warning there.
Both shoulders and both sides of my neck have damage from 2 at work accidents, and a car accident back on Christmas Day a couple years ago on my way home from work.
By now I'm sure you know pain killers are part of my life. Mood swings and periods of lack of judgement are right out of the medical books for me with everything going on. Think of what Marta has to put up with.
A couple dozen DUers know what is slowly killing me. I thank every single one of them for keeping my secret. I'll write that tell all post when it is time to leave for good.
I'm going to try to be a real life volunteer for newly diagnosed terminal patients. I'm going downhill, so I have no idea how long it will last. Because of the nature of what I'll be doing is confidential, I really can't share much. My first venture is next week.
I'll be attending the state boys basketball tournament for I hope the next three days if my team keeps winning, so I won't be on the DU as much as I have been since I retired.
I love the DU. When the time comes to leave I will lose a huge extended & caring family. Sometime after that it will be the theme from M*A*S*H.
I do want to stay on the DU. Please let me know when Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde have overstayed their welcome, because I won't know it myself.
BTW, those cowards living in a cave don't bother me in anymore. They haven't for a long time!
Much love,
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde A.K.A. OS

(54,269 posts)about labor, and I thank you for keeping us informed. In these days when there is so much mudslinging about this or that politician, you care about the working class and what is happening to them in America.
I'm sorry about your health problems. I rarely comment in your threads, but I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate what you do here. I've never seen a bad side.

I wish you and Marta peace during your struggle. My thoughts are with you both. Stay with us as long as you can.

(10,650 posts)... but whatever it was you did this afternoon, I'm proud of you. Love you OS. Those CT surgeries are really going to help. I know, because I had the same thing. Still plagued with Arthur, but CT is impossible to deal/cope with. Wish they could get you in sooner than a month from now, though. I'll pray for cancellations so your surg will be moved up.

(91,195 posts)that I came to realize you were in such a state but it did remind me of an important action that we could all participate in... especially when you made a similar post concerning this a while back because you had a rough day and felt the need to express your truth. Forgiving is important and we should all have the compassion to do so when situations like yours end up making for a bad moment or two.
I, personally, truly appreciate your participation and contribution here, I think of you as a wise "elder" on this site. (By elder I mean like the revered wise ones in any family or tribe who have seen so much in life that they have insight most can only aspire to possess.)
Bad days and moments happen to everyone in a myriad of ways, yours sound hard to bear and because I understand suffering and the break in composure that can overwhelm us at times, I will always forgive you for them when they occur here.
I do hope you will be with us for some time as you still have much to teach us. But I also don't want you to suffer beyond you ability to bear what you do endure. I thank you for staying with us through it all, even when you have rough moments that might even ruffle the feathers of some who don't know.
Carry on, cyber friend, we will cover for you when necessary because those of us who do know will be here to do just that... because we love and respect you.

(102,691 posts)Hour drive. Dinner. Two games. Hour drive home. It will be after midnight before I'm home. I have to get up early to babysit. IF we win tonight, I'll be headed back to Lincoln tomorrow night for two more games.
So I don't think I'll be on much tomorrow.

(11,656 posts)There are certain people I think of when I think of why DU is such an amazing place. Stand outs amoung very special people.
You are most definitely near the top of that list. I don't know how long you have, heck none of us know how long we have, but before either of us check out I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you have contributed to this forum.
Know that I'm in the majority thinking this.

(112,925 posts)What I've seen is an uncharacteristically thin skin from time to time. I get that when the pain medication wears off, myself, and if I notice it, I just sign off until I can take another pill and function for a few more hours.
I'm on my way, too, but what's killing me is doing it very slowly. The bad part is that I'll go completely goofy at some point. I hope Skinner is kind and wears slippers instead of boots when my butt gets kicked out of here.
I think a lot of us are on our way. We old boomers are getting up there and it happens.

I could give two sheets about any cave dweller here. I've been smacking em around from dungeon days on DU 2. I believe the know-nothing party invades everything they can.
Please do me a favor after your tournament, follow up on your sleep device for optimal compliance. PM me any time, as I'm sort of an insider on that. I have mild carpel tunnel and don't need the surgery (yet), but I'd be willing to research anything just to get you through that dark night.

(3,655 posts)have you tried alternative ways of posting? Could you use Dragon Naturally Speaking?
http://www.nuance.com/dragon/index.htm
You could post and browse with only your voice. You have to train the software and learn the browsing commands. I tried the voice rec software that comes with Tablet XP. It was slow and limited but did work. I tried browsing on an older version of Dragon and that worked quite well.
