The reason I ask is because Joe Scarborough seems to think the SAE frat douchebags were influenced by rap lyrics. Oh those rappers and their rampant use of the "N" word.
So? Is okay for me to make fun of Judaism because Mel Brooks, Kathy Ladman and Robert Klein do?
Btw... Isn't Scarborough a worthless dickbag?

(23,100 posts)But I think most people seem to get that their lyrics are also heavily influenced by them also just being horrible racist people.
Blazing Saddles is funny because Cleavon Little's characters actions allows the jokes to work. Place many of the same jokes in a different context and the movie would be horribly offensive. Mel Brooks Jewish jokes work in many of his movies (The Producers for example) but also fall flat and feel clique in his later movies. When doing humor, context is everything.

(45,003 posts)In which the answer depends in part on what is humor and what isn't.
Mel Brooks making self-deprecating jokes about being Jewish doesn't open the door for anyone, including other Jews, to engage in hate-filled rants about Jews that are in no way funny.
Mel Brooks, of course, also made jokes based on stereotypes of other groups, including African-Americans. Its a tricky thing, but it can be done and still be humorous or it can miss the mark and fall on the wrong side of the line.

(25,348 posts)...to make anti-Semitic or even racist jokes. It's just not very nice or cool and would probably offend a lot of people.

(65,616 posts)If you are asking for my opinion, you have the right to say and do anything you want to that is not a crime or help criminal activities. It is not my place to tell you how to behave or act.
Mel Brooks has the right to do whatever he feels is "funny" to him and I have the right to not buy a movie ticket to go and see it.

(5,510 posts)but if you make fun of Jewish culture and you're not a lantsman, I have every right to denounce you as a racist chozzer.
People confuse "right" with "license."
The right to say pretty-much anything is always there. The license to get away with it is another story.

(8,982 posts)The gist of this is to ridicule the notion that something or someone else is responsible for the actions of the racist SAE frat members.
Thank you.
