It will be a long time before I am done reading and posting here.
So, say hello to RobertEarl, because we're gonna be reading a lot of each other.

(13,685 posts)It is nice to see you here. That's why I am replying. I usually only reply to those I am glad to see here. You are in good company.
Lots if differences here. people sometimes lose track of the goal: a progressive government and an end to right wing austerity and oppression.

(13,685 posts)They get all personal with their bs, when they ought to save face, leave us alone and join in fighting the oppressors. You've noticed it, eh?

(13,685 posts)Excitement is good, eh? We've been banging on the walls of bushco for going on 14 years now. Looks like they are gonna add another brick to the wall for us to smash. Hey jeb, bring it!
Enjoy!!

As my favorite Japanese song goes:
Boku ga inakunarya dareka naku kana?
Neru mae tama ni sonna bakana koto toka
Kangaetarishita
If I'm gone, will anyone cry for me?
Sometimes before falling asleep
I've thought about such silly things.

(13,685 posts)Well, unless one is a president or something similar, none of us will be remembered at all in a few years after we're gone.
How's things in the Land of the Rising Sun?

I haven't heard much about Fukushima recently. And starting this month, I haven't been able to tune in to the TV news, because they have completely eliminated analog broadcasting here and my TV is kind of old. Even though my DVD player, which feeds the broadcast signals to my TV, was supposed to be "digital ready", apparently it wasn't.

(13,685 posts)I bet things are really hot in the area by then. Global Warming and all that.
Are people moving back into the areas that were washed out by the tsunami? Or are they staying on the higher grounds like the ancestors advised?

(27,247 posts)They are trying to revise standards for tsunami evacuation centers-- for example, how high they should be in relative elevation, how resistant they should be, and things like that. They are also working to design better sea walls and coastal levees.
In some places, it would be really tough not to build in tsunami-ravaged areas. Nearly the entire town of Minami Senriku, for example, was inundated. And long ago they rebuilt the airport at Sendai, which had been flooded by the tsunami.
I have heard from some people who volunteer in tsunami areas that a lot of the local people who evacuated elsewhere aren't coming back. I guess the memories are just too painful for them.

(27,247 posts)For some reason, they've scheduled the Olympics for July, which is the start of the muggy season. Last time, they were in October, which has much more favorable weather.
