For example, they keep referring to her as the likely Democratic presidential nominee.
We shouldn't let them get away with this gratuitous bullshit.

(68,644 posts)Why does the media select someone who hasn't even declared that they are running?
What do they have to gain by this?
Are they reporting news or trying to influence outcomes of elections that haven't even begun?
Why bother voting at all?

(2,941 posts)a manner that will invite non-stop controversy. That's good for their business.
And she can afford to. She's spent years building a Hillary Defense Fund that seems prepared to spend all of its money and human resources defending her behavior rather than actively advancing popular policies. That's also good for business.
Of course, none of it is good for us.

(2,941 posts)candidate rather than a self made pinata. Hillary could do more good working behind the scenes for populist causes like the disparity of wealth and justice driving us all towards poverty.
But that doesn't seem to interest her.

WASHINGTON SINCE open letters to secretive and duplicitous regimes are in fashion, we would like to post an Open Letter to the Leaders of the Clinton Republic of Chappaqua:
It has come to our attention while observing your machinations during your attempted restoration that you may not fully understand our constitutional system. Thus, we are writing to bring to your attention two features of our democracy: The importance of preserving historical records and the ill-advised gluttony of an American feminist icon wallowing in regressive Middle Eastern states payola....

(65,616 posts)We need to get the media out of politics. We need to get Wall Street out of the media.
We need to get all these crooked/racist cops out of law enforcement and into the unemployment line. Many good people want to be cops too and probably 5 good hopefuls for every 1 shitty corrupt racist cop that gets to stay no matter what.
So anyway I am all on board, now how do we stop them?

(20,453 posts)I guess we protest their columns or tell their editors that you're done.
They're a bunch of stenographers anyway. No one really reports much worth reading these days, including Dowd.

The only way Dems are going to gain control is if they take over the media and stop the biased reporting favoring the GOP.

The press conference at the UN stepped on Hillary's own message, her speech commemorating one of the highlights of her career, the speech on women's rights in Bejing. Not only that, it was the most inconvenient space possible for the reporters, who were grumpy and irritable before they even asked the first question:
http://www.cjr.org/analysis/hillary_clinton_press_relationship.php How Hillary Clinton made journalists lives difficult from Columbia Journalism Review
Clinton is well known for loathing the political press. That contempt has become all too apparent or all too familiar, for those who remember her husbands presidency in wake of the email revelations. Her tight-lipped team has stonewalled countless questions from reporters, and her only personal response to the story came in a late-night tweet last week. Journalists, smelling a potential home-brewed Clinton scandal, clamored for more. And on Tuesday, Clinton finally paid lip service to the furor.
But not without a catch, of course. Though Politico reported on Monday that Clinton would give a press conference the following afternoon, her office did not officially confirm those plans until 11:30 am Tuesday, just hours before the event was scheduled to begin. The location: the United Nations, well-known for an arduous process to obtain press credentials.
The move caught political reporters unaware, and they flooded the UNs media office on Tuesday morning in a rush to gain access. The Washington Post described the scene:
The line for credentials wrapped the block outside the cramped U.N. office where all badges are issued. A lone staffer, beleaguered but polite, was handling all press requests. Badges in hand, reporters then waited in a long line to pass through security.
snip...
Clinton ran behind schedule in starting her remarks, leaving dozens of reporters hemmed in a cramped space, doing what were best at: tweeting in indignation. Her eventual remarks werent especially enlightening, as she maintained that she used a personal email out of convenience. Clintons ultimate message: Trust me.
Can't anyone here play this game?

(45,274 posts)each needlessly self-inflicted.
In this instance, there's plenty of precedent for what the press can do to someone to whom they take a visceral dislike. Sighing, boring Earthtone Al, of Love Canal and Love Story fame and inventor of the Internet, could tell you a thing or two about how the press can hang a fabricated and destructive image on you.
The only real question is whether she will make it through the next year into Primary Season before she takes the final stumble.

(92,181 posts)If you haven't noticed Wisconsin has elected Walker 3 times, they threw Russ Feingold out. Iowa elected Joni Ernst. Florida is a basket case, Pennsylvania gave us Santorum, and Corbett, Massachusetts gave us Scott Brown and Romney., and the problem is not that they eventually didn't throw Santorum, Corbett, Brown, and Romney out, it is that they even got elected in traditionally blue states.
Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren would make terrific presidents, the problem is much of the U.S. is composed of people who are dumber than a rock. Many folks here profess that if Hillary runs she will lose, but there is absolutely nothing that shows me that a progressive or liberal candidate can win in today's atmosphere. People have underestimated the damage that deregulation of the media has done. It is like a contagious disease. Usually fox starts the talking points for the day, and the echo chamber picks it up, and keeps re-enforcing it through various media outlets. Don't include the 3 shows on MSNBC, or the less than 5% of talks radio. Most people do not watch or listen to them compared to the right wing bubble. As far as Newspapers, people don't read, and don't care about current events to a large part, they only listen to sound bites. Recent studies have show that 1/5th of Americans can't locate the U.S. on a map. Why do you think that is?
I have no doubt that most Americans do not have any idea the damage Reagan did, from deregulating the S&Ls, starting the ball rolling for deregulation in general, and destruction of unions. He increased the national debt to record numbers, supported and armed what was to become Al Queada, and what he should have been impeached for, the Iran Contra issue. Most polls are very favorable toward him, and that speaks volumes about our country.
Hell, in my state California, they elected Arnold Schwarzenegger which was an embarrassment, and it wasn't until Jerry Brown became governor, that California headed back to financial stability.
The Nixon/Lee Atwater Southern strategy is alive and well, and it has gotten worse. The fact remains, if you are able to take all the red states you most likely will win the Presidential election.

(55,981 posts)our killing children in the middle east, she will allow Wall Street to steal hundreds of billions from the middle and lower classes.
She didn't have the guts to stand up to George Bush in 2002. She bowed to him and helped his promulgate the lies.
The neocons have openly said they support her. Her and Bill have amassed over $100,000,000 in the last 15 years and not from hard work.
But none of that matters, because you don't care about the poverty rate, or the killing of children in the Middle East or the uncontrolled Security State . What do you care about? Seriously what do you care about?

(55,981 posts)to get us into a war with Iraq. And those that live in denial don't want to speak about her responsibility for the deaths of over a hundred thousand innocent children by horrible deaths. If by your standards you can accept that, then I understand that there is something wrong with me.
I would offer a different view. Those that lied us into the war and those that accept that decision, are the sick ones.
Answer me this, what did those Iraq children die for?
