Rep. Aaron Schock Under Fire for Not Disclosing Companion on Official Trip to India

Last edited Sun Mar 15, 2015, 04:28 AM - Edit history (1)

the Companion is the guy in the red and navy tie standing next to Schock in the pic posted below

<Under House rules, according to the NJ, a member of Congress can "accept private money for a companion's travel expenses only if the companion is a staffer, spouse or child. Link was none of those; he didn't appear on Schock's official or campaign payroll until September 2014."

After voting to freeze salaries for federal workers all the way through 2015 and opposing any minimum wage increases, Congressman Aaron Schock quietly gave huge pay raises and/or bonuses to most of the staff members in his taxpayer-funded office during the last three months of 2014, according to Congressional expenditure reports examined by Blue Nation Review....

...Jonathon Link, Schock’s full time personal photographer, started September 1 and was paid $4,166 for that month, which translates to an annual salary of about $50,000. In the final three months of the year, he was paid $17,500, which translates to an annual salary of about $70,000. In addition to his congressional salary, Link’s photography studio was paid more than $29,000 during the final three months of the year for “Web Dev Hst, Email and Rltd Serv.” Schock’s office also paid “Web Dev Hst, Email and Rltd Serv” through Fireside21—a company that charges just a few hundred dollars per month and actually specializes in web development, hosting, email, and related services for Congressional offices. Was Link double-dipping?>

1. "I'm Schock-ed, just Schock-ed that a US Congressman has done this...!"

That is one of the cleverest replies to the article at the link! But all of them are rather saucy!

If that guy is a "companion," and not an "employee" (and from his job description, come on...it sounds like the "videographer" job the John Edwards gave to the mother of his latest child) and he's on the payroll, Rep. Schock is in some serious hot ethical water.

If they get married in a hurry, he can say he thought it was OK to include his fiance and the GOP ethics committee might forgive him. Of course, they're such homophobes they might get mad at him for living an authentic life.

3. Well, this guy is in so much hot water it isn't funny--this is the least of his problems

He makes Duke Cunningham look like a choir boy. He's got ethics problems up the yinyan...travel on private jets, accepting goods and services to include a redecorating of his office to make it look like Downton Abbey, some supporter "bought" his house--and overpaid mightily for it...the guy is a train wreck, and he's the youngest Congressman ever!

4. Well if he reported his companion then he would have to admit he was gay...

And then how could he defend his anti-gay votes and his bullshit facade he's put up since running for office?
