With friends like Fox, who needs enemies?
Typically, the misinformation jetstream that is Fox News and its television and radio offshoots is a problem confined solely to the United States; however, recently, the conservative networks hysterics have reached such a fever pitch that its actually affecting international relations. Fresh off a pending lawsuit filed by the city of Paris for its complete and total fabrication of no-go zones where Muslims have taken over neighborhoods, Fox once again allowed one of their experts say something so monumentally idiotic that the international community has responded.
Given the rise in Russian aggression towards its neighbor (and United States ally) Ukraine, coupled with Obamas no nonsense approach to dealing with an over-blustering Vladimir Putin, its safe to say that United States-Russian relations havent been this tense in several decades. Stepping into this delicate balance is Foxs resident military analyst, former U.S. Army Major General Robert Scales, who decided what would help ease tensions would be to go on television and suggest America start killing Russians.
The only way the United States can have any effect in this region and turn the tide is to start killing Russians killing so many Russians that even Putins media cant hide the fact that Russians are returning to the motherland in body bags.
-snip-
As to be expected when someone goes on television to boldly announce a plan of killing ones countrymen, Russia is now investigating Scales and, according to several reports, likely pursuing criminal charges against the retired general.
Right on cue, Scales was back on Fox, telling host Greta Van Susteren that the outrage Russia expressed at the idea of America killing Russians is just one more example of Russia trying to intimidate media outlets. Yes, Scales thought the Russians were the ones being unreasonable here.

(15,237 posts)If Uncle Thunderbolt were alive today all he would need is Fox News which would have saved him on him money on subscriptions. As an exercise in self education I read some of his literature in discovering how low humans could descend. The briefest channel flipping on Fox gets similar results. Constant unrestrained, fanatical, hate, brain pornography for the elderly and delusional. It is always shocking that people actually believe this trash and it represents the positions of a major American political party.

(559 posts)I'm 73 and as liberal as you. I'm a life member of Veterans for Peace. I voted for Obama twice. He will always be a hero to me. Everyone I know in my age range is liberal. Time to put this BS to bed. Most of the nazis in Congress, and on fox are way younger than I am. Maybe closer to YOUR age!
mountain grammy
(26,614 posts)and the most of the nazis in congress are our age, as are Fox viewers, as are the voters who elected this Republican majority.
Not ageism, honest, it's reality. It's good to hear everyone you know in your age group is liberal, that's not my experience. My friends are liberal, but most people I know are not. My husband uses the VA for healthcare and is always surprised at the anti Obama, right wing talk he hears.
I've just begun to connect with my high school classmates about my 50th reunion. I haven't seen or spoken to anyone from my class for at least 45 years, but we've formed a facebook group and are getting to know each other. Right wingers abound! I'm shocked. Our high school was an inner city school and most of us were lower middle class or just poor. I've given up trying to figure it out.

(115,661 posts)old and white. And I really hate being lumped in with those losers. While it is true that the average Fox viewer is older (and white), I don't care for the assumption that old = conservative. A lot of us old folks are unreconstructed hippies who participated in the civil rights and antiwar movements of the '60s, and are a hell of a lot more liberal than some of the young wingnuts who are raising hell right now - like Tom Cotton. Almost all of the "old" people of my acquaintance are liberals.
Also, get off my lawn.

(15,237 posts)Most of the kids I know could best be described as liberal and are struggling to put their expensive College education to finding a job. They have far less problems with sexual orientation, take family planning as a given, are not obsessed with the acquisition of massive firepower for their gun cabinet, nor are they keen on starting a war with Iran. They at least want to repay the student loans they thought was possible a few years ago.
The dozen or so turncoat geezers I know are to a person avid Foxbots. They are to a person convinced that being conservative is a youth thing especially if you are female, young, and blond. The Fox demographic works for them. So it is fine to label me as having ageism, and based on the Fox blonds reference I am likely sexist.

This is not a new phenomenon, but has plagued our country from it's birth. Interesting article on the subject at the link.

(53,661 posts)I think every cursed thing that comes out of Rupert's American media cesspool means the exact opposite of what people think about it. Because his other stations abroad promote calling America the source of the world's problem and chief warmonger, but here they promote us going to war with others. They've got it coming and going, left and right now.

Some say, if we didn't have the MIC, there would be no jobs. Seems the only thing that we make here in the US is weaponry.
WTF am I doing here any way?
Takket
(21,552 posts)But the GOP has done a great job of paying off companies to get rid of well paying non-MIC jobs. This leaves the average joe either taking a MIC job or going homeless. And average joe, who is too blinded by Fox News to realize how he got into this position, roots for war to protect his paycheck.

(8,203 posts)From Fox and 47 US senators...we are going into our Presidential election with war on the mind..In 2000 I remember turning to my husband and expressing my fears - if Bush gets in we are going to war -
I have only one thing to say (as a sister of two brothers who served in Viet Nam) NO MORE EFFIN' WAR - NO MORE EFFIN' WAR -
Rummy and cheezy and all the other warmongers are lurking - and not so in the shadows...blatantly out in the open....beating the drums....
I know many here at DU (I have been here for a couple years, only recently started to comment) agree - NO MORE WAR, PERIOD!
I have seen this before...and the winds are carrying very dark clouds - I don't like it - when I take ALL the propaganda and lump it together...the story line is familiar....I haven't forgotten Viet Nam...Iraq and Afghanistan - totally sad.....
One person cannot turn around this beast that is rising from the ashes...I choose to take a stand against this beast of putting our innocent men and women in harms way....we turned the tide in Viet Nam -it took a while to sink into the minds of Americans..Once we were shown the number of body bags - we did not stop....
We have a president in the WH who wants to use diplomacy...and the harm in that is WHAT? - The only harm to Americans - is the enemy within......

(764 posts)But it is obvious he is working hard to amp down the tensions in the middle east. He and the Obama party want peace like all the other industrial countries, it is where humanity is going. We need Fox news to document the extinction of the redneck mentality including selfish greed based on fear and ignorance . Fox shows us where we don't want to go. As human awareness grows the human population evolves into a better being with no need for Fox news

(17,911 posts)...think starting another major land war in Europe is the answer? To anything? The Russians are not the Taliban. The are not the Iraqi insurgents. They are not the NVA or Vietcong. If the NATO attempts airstrikes, a significant number of NATO pilots will be killed by SAMs and Russian fighter aircraft. They will respond with a modern military response and American service personnel will die so this fucking idiot can beat his chest.
And then there's the Russian tactical nukes and their willingness to use them in such a situation. Don't think they didn't notice and respond to what happened to their friends the Serbs in the 90s.

They consistently assume that if you attack other countries they will always be cowed and back down.
The fact that this has never happened once in history doesn't seem to be a factor.
