St. Louis County police have arrested a suspect and recovered a weapon in connection with the shooting of two police officers standing guard during a peaceful protest in Ferguson, Mo., early Thursday, according to a news release.

Officials in Missouri announced a news conference at 2:30 p.m. Eastern time to discuss “an arrest in connection with the shooting at the Ferguson Police Department Thursday morning that left two police officers wounded.”

Law enforcement sources told The Washington Post that a local man was arrested in the late morning on Sunday and that the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting has been recovered.

The shooting came just hours after the resignation of Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson, which sparked a new round of protest outside of the police department. Demonstrations have gone on for more than seven months since the Aug. 9 shooting of Michael Brown, a black 18-year-old who was killed by a white police officer.

From http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/03/15/ferguson-police-shooting-arrest/24808987/

A 20-year-old protester has been charged with shooting two police officers in Ferguson, Mo., last week, authorities said Sunday.

County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch said Jeffrey Williams was charged with two counts of assault in the first degree, one count of firing a weapon from a vehicle, and thee counts of armed criminal action.

McCulloch said Williams admitted firing the shots, but said he was shooting at someone else.

"We're not sure we buy that part of it," McCulloch said, adding that the handgun used in the shooting has been recovered.

"McCulloch said Williams admitted firing the shots, but said he was shooting at someone else."

So, I guess since he was firing at someone else, not the line of LEOs, that makes it better?

"Jeffrey Williams is charged with two counts of first-degree assault, one count of firing a weapon from a vehicle and three counts of armed criminal action."

Why wasn't he charged with attempted murder? or attempted manslaughter?

Would a RW white agitator have been charged the same as Mr. Williams?

maybe it's because they feel they can't prove who the suspect was firing at/attempting to kill???

but I understand he is facing life in prison on what he's been charged with
