Ted Cruz Makes Impassioned Plea For Repeal Of Federal Legislation That Does Not Exist
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is known for waging political battles even if the odds of success are slim. He famously launched a 21-hour filibuster in a failed, last-ditch effort to repeal Obamacare. But his latest crusade may be his biggest challenge yet: repealing a federal law that does not exist.
On Twitter, Cruz blasted the federal government role in education and called for the repeal of Common Core:

Stumbling from one disaster to another with their eyes closed, is more like constantly falling. The more they fall the more disasters they cause.
Clearly McCain wanted to start a war with Russia. Cotton wants to nuke Iran. They are either the worlds biggest dullards or criminally insane megalomaniacs. Blowing off the head to save the body never worked. You just have to wonder why they don't get it. Even someone without most of their faculties still wants to breath and eat and survive. McCain and Cotton appear to have all working bodyparts and brain matter. Republicans are an enigma. |

54. Yeah, and they're winning. Again.
I realize that's not a popular sentiment, and I'm not trying to be reactionary. It's just we're still half stuck (or more) in wars in southwestern Asia, and the GOP are already currently in full propaganda mode for the war with Iran. If you think the past decade plus was bad, the period after we bomb Iran will make this look like the "good old days" older than myself people reminisce about.
I've been a bit dramatic recently I've been told. Which may well be true. However, some of the same people saying this to me are the very ones who told me I was wrong about Bush intending to invade Iran after 9/11. So take it all as you choose. |

47. Actually, he's not that far off.
The Common Core isn't law, no, but Race to the Top, which forced states to implement the Common Core in a competition for more federal dollars is. In some cases, only two people in a state signed the paperwork to implement the CCSS (as we in education call it), and it wasn't exactly voluntarily. Michigan, for example, jumped through all the hoops and implemented the CCSS only to not get an extra dime from the feds.
The federal government actually did play a role in creating the standards (mostly through funding, but they were at the table and behind the scenes pushing it on the states before the standards were even done being written), and it required states to adopt them in order to get RTTT funding. Just because they put things on their website doesn't mean they're telling the truth. Madfloridian here and Diane Ravitch have good resources on what this fiasco actually is, who funded it, and who's behind it all. |

Not only the Mutant Registration Act, but also the measure granting emergency powers to Chancellor Palpatine. Both pieces of legislation have been decried as a massive government overreach and clear violation of civil liberties, however since the laws disproportionately affects minorities like mutants and non-humanoid sentient species, Cruz's normally libertarian constituency have remained conspicuously silent on the issue....
