Here's a photo with my old, lousy camera, shortly after I found them. I kept them in the bathroom for a while to get them socialized. Suellen is the tortie, and Carreen is the calico. Suellen was nuts, but is now very affectionate, and always gets underfoot. Carreen was the one with the serious case of coxcydia which almost killed her. She is now a diva...I think all calicos are.
Here they are with their older sister Belle...she was found as a kitten in the same location in the park, but I'm pretty sure they don't have the same mother...I caught Belle's mother recently and had her fixed; the female who I think is Carreen and Suellen's Mom has still eluded me.
And here's Carreen enjoying a butt pillow...Happy Birthday!

(15,805 posts)What a lovely fur family you have, very pretty colors, and good on you for taking them all in. All three of my wonderful kittehs were foundlings, one dumped off at my house, one abandoned in a closed cardboard box left in a shopping cart, and one that my daring hubby saved from dogs. They always make me happy.
You have to post some photos!

(15,805 posts)He was just a tiny baby when DH saved him from dogs. He really wanted to live --many thanks to our vet! -- as much as we wanted to keep him.

And this is him a few months later, looking cool by his "pool"... he's all grown up now and still loves to play in water!

He has the most vivid, cobalt blue eyes ever seen.

THE ABSOLUTE HANDS-DOWN BEST IDEA IN THE ENTIRE FREAKIN' WORLD!!!
Yes, I'm SHOUTING!!!!
Litter mates are WUNNNNNNNNNderful! If you adopt them both, then they keep each other company as they get acclimated. It's not such a jolt. There's much less separation anxiety. There's a familiar component to reassure each of them. They sleep together, they cuddle together, they bicker together, they eat together, they groom each other - I can't tell you how much fun it was to watch Barney and Betty full-on in their sibling behavior, giving each other baths simultaneously. It was like a Conga line of grooming! We laughed all night long! And then it'd erupt into instant WAR!!!! And then they'd dial it back and forget about it in an instant. They'd jump down off their perch together, they'd approach us together, or one-by-one right together. They were each other's shadow. They acclimated more quickly, too. They're still fat 'n' sassy today!
Best idea we ever had, pet-wise. BEST. Such a good idea that when the cats we have finally leave us, and we want another one, we're gonna look for litter mates again.

(50,566 posts)post a photo of an exposed floofy white-and-pink kitty belly without giving me the ability to transport myself instantly to your home to smooch it repeatedly! Aaaargh! So frustrating!
But I definitely agree about getting litter mates or other types of bonded pairs (mother/child, etc.).

(81,220 posts)into that tummy. It's delicious. Big and soft and fat and furry and yummy-looking. Running your hand over it is sheer heaven! And he just lays there and lets you do it. He reminds me of all those nature shows that go to the beach where the sea lions and sea elephants are all lying around on the sand like big mounds of blubber. Barney must weigh 20 pounds. He's as mellow and laid back as can be. Loves everybody, including our dog. His sister is lighter-weight and the bossiest quadruped in the house. Even the dog is intimidated by her.
Barney and the dog have this little love routine every morning while waiting to be fed. Goldie (dog) settles in, in the corner, and watches. Barney will come up to her and rub under her snout, back and forth underneath. It's the perfect height. She just lets him, for as long as he wants. He nuzzles her and walks slowly under her muzzle. And then, as he walks away, she sticks her nose up his butt and sniffs.
Here - have one more!

(50,566 posts)Barney is awesome. What a good kitty to let you snuzzle his belly without getting the Venus Cattrap on your head (I would still do it, though, even if he routinely trapped my entire head -- it's worth it).

(81,220 posts)A gentle giant, in every sense of the word.
In another riff to the cartoon world, we sometimes refer to them as "Big Shorty and Short Biggie." Barney is Big Shorty. His bossy sister Betty is Short Biggie. She pushes around everybody on four legs. And she does a pretty decent job pushing us bipeds around, too!

(56,177 posts)Yes, they are littermates...unfortunately they were the only two I found there so sadly the others didn't make it, which happens too much for outdoor, abandoned Moms.

(56,177 posts)I think Belle's Mom is also the Mom of Katie...a rescue who is now 11 months...she had two litters where only one survived from each, so I am very thankful I finally caught her because it's clear she has trouble in pregnancy.

(15,480 posts)My calico wandered into my yard and life from the woods behind my house when she was an undernourished little thing - vet estimated her age at 3 months, although she was the size of a six week old. My older rescue tuxedo cat spotted her from the 2nd floor deck and alerted me to her. It was love at first sight for the two of them. Her name (unimaginatively) is Callie, but I often refer to her as The Principessa.
