I can't recall which member had a police scanner, but salacious as it was, it was fascinating hearing and discussing the search and confrontation far ahead of the media, right up til the police discovered they were being eavesdropped on and switched channels.
Anyone have a better memory than I?

(41,959 posts)As am I, mostly. But the trial made me remember what a strange event that was.

I don't recall Will's "wiping up the keyboard" but if you search "boston bombing martial law" I'm not the only person who had this insight.
You'll note, most importantly, that Tsarnaev was not caught until after the curfew was lifted.

I thought it was unprecedented and still consider it so. I had never before experienced something of that magnitude before. And if we get cozy to the idea that police departments can shut down cities for "safety reasons" I find that very uncomfortable.

Up until that time, I had never heard that phrase used by the police.
Those were definitely strange times.
I'm glad you're okay.
I followed the story on the tv and simultaneously came to the DU forum to see what was also being said about it at the same time.
It was unbelievable.

(23,272 posts)im not going to re-hash but I did remember some DUers who clearly felt that the actions verged on martial law.
Hope you and yours are well...

(63,221 posts)In the wake of what had happened, I just didn't see it as a big deal. Of course, I felt safe in my apartment and didn't really want to be out there anyway. I might have felt differently if cops were banging down my door.

(16,327 posts)There was a live channel video that someone in Boston (not a DUer) had set-up -- they had a police scanner on and had their video camera pointed at it as the whole thing went down. There were several DUers, including myself, who were transcribing what we were hearing on the scanner broadcast. At one point, police were talking on the scanner warning there was a live feed being shown on the internet -- they must have feared that Tsernaev might have been able to listen in and get information on where the police were located in relation to him.
That was one of the wilder days on DU. And fascinating.

(41,959 posts)As I said I know it's salacious but next to the play-by-play on elections nights that was the most remarkable day on DU for me.
